A local store apparently has the fx30 in stock to buy... and I find it strange that I can't find a single decent review for this camera on the web.

After much procrastination, I finally decided to buy an fx01 only to discover that the fx30 is the 'evolution' camera of the fx01. I'd feel silly buying the fx01 today only to discover next week that the fx30 blows it away... and I'd feel equally silly paying the extra $100+ for the fx30 if it's pictures are no better.

I'm going to this store tomorrow to see what they say about the matter, but I know before I walk in they will pump the more expensive camera.

these will give you some opinions and a few comparison images.

these cameras are not ideal for low light shooting but are great for general use

it looks as though the Venus 3 processing has been improved a bit for FX30 (over the FX07); particularly evident in the low light high ISO samples in the third thread, but frankly there's a bunch of us (myself included) that still prefer the 6MP sensor and Venus 2 processor (or simplified Venus 2; Venus Plus I think it's called) in the FX01. Many of us wouldn't shoot at ISO400 regularly with any of these cameras, but it you do, for my money I prefer the FX01 result as illustrated within the second thread.

does anyone know the maximum memory the FX30 can use? on Panasonic's website it seems like its 4gb for both the SD and SDHC format. Is one format faster or better than the other?

Thanks.

Here's what it says in my manual:
(the following types of cards are referred to)
1. SD memory card up to 2GB
2. SDHC memory card (4GB)
3. MultiMedia card

And there is a picture showing that a 4GB SDHC card is fine but a 4GB SD card is NOT.

thanks for the information about the memory size and thats odd SD can only go up to 2gbs. I am very interested in this camera so can you please post some nightshots? hopefully this model is am improvement over the FX01.

Thanks.

has the FX01 for $179.00

I don't know the store, though.
At resellerratings.com, digitalsuperdeals.com has ten ratings - every one of them 'very dissatisfied'. It's the too-common 'call to confirm your order' and then they try to sell you a bunch of accessories, which if you don't buy them, they will just cancel your order. Waste of time.

Merci - I saw this site when I was looking for early FX30 reviews. Very informative. I know they preferred the Canon, but they do say a lot of ggod things about the Panny, and so far I am happy with the responsiveness of the camera (although I haven't tried burst mode yet).

I've been working this weekend, not much time to take photos. Here are three from my back porch, the first on Auto and the next two on Night Scenery. The shots of the tree under the street lamp are on max zoom. It is cold out there - so I was not holding the camera as steady as I normally would!

Also, two macros and two indoors at higher ISOs from earlier today.
