Hi,

I have been carrying the EX-Z55 hanging from my belt (and using it some 30000 times) for almost three years.

Last Monday it was robbed from me, and I need a substitute.

Since I have two spare NP-40 batteries and a stand-alone BG-30L charger for them, the substitute must employ the same battery model.

After reading many Casio specs, I selected three camera models that use the same battery: Z850, Z1000, and Z1050.

Of the Z850, I liked the Manual and Shutter Priority modes.

Of the Z1000, I liked the 2.8in LCD and the stainless steel body.

Of the Z1050, I liked the high speed bursts and tracking focus.

I can't decide between them. Please help. I will be ordering one of them as soon as I choose one.

One more thing: I remember having read some complaints about the movie quality of the Z850.

How do these three models compare in movie quality?

the z850 movie quality is very good after the firmware 1.20B, like the z750 or better.

Movies are captured in MPG4, that means around 1 hour 640x480 HQ at 30fps in 2 GB sd memory.
To fix some past problems, movies are captured with zoom starting by 1.4X

With the latest firmware, pictures quality is very good and stills are sharp and clear.

At iso200 and over stills get noiser but you can use the expose+iso50 way (till 60 seconds) or a digital noise cleaner (like Neat Image, very good).

In my opinion the V7 is different class to the Z850 from what I've seen.

Plus look at the additional features, seems like a no brainer?

Hi TameSide,

Thanks for your reply.

However, I'm not interested on the EX-V7 because it uses battery model NP-50.

I don't want my two spare NP-40 batteries and my BG-30 charger to become useless.

I am curious about Z-1005, but without seeing its pictures, I will not buy it. Today there was a bad review of Z-1000 at Megapixel, but I think the 1005 was deeply improved. Since the new upgrade for Z-850 was out, I decided to keep it. For me, it is one of the best or even the best small camera in the market.
Best wishes.
PS: I think you can get it for a nice price.

The z860 also has an all metal body

The problem with all of the anwerers you get here is that they have used only one camera. I am in a similar position to you and would like a review of all of the Casio cameras. I have had 3 and I love the Z 600 I have. However I would like to be able to shoot a quicker picture from the start and a
less shaky one.. in other words motion stablility would be a priority.

A lot of pixels is not an issue.. my computer can get clogged up easily without a huge new amount pouring with each picture,, I make a zillion 8x10's and they are great.
So maybe we should jointly look for a source off knowledge on ALL Casios.
cheers

Hi Ron,

Thanks for yur reply.

You're right. I didn't get the answers I was expecting, so I chose a model by myself.

I ordered the Z850, and the main reason was the very positive feedback this camera has had from Casio, in terms of ROM updates. I think they were four, and one of them did wonders with the image sharpness. I was very impressed, and it gave me the feeling that this camera must be very "fine-tuned" by now.

Last year I was looking for a small camera with a large zoom and image stabilization. I chose and bought the Panasonic TZ1. In terms of image quality it satisfied me, but in terms of menus, features and firmware, it made me sorry it was not a Casio.

Casio is so ahead of all others in terms of design-cleverness, feature sets, and user-friendliness, that it appears to be from another world.

Do you know, for instance, that Sony cameras (apparently all, who knows?) have a bug, by which many photos are erased from the memory card after the 9999th picture is taken? That bug has been there for years, Sony doesn't do anything to repair, and new cameras are still being released with the same bug!

If you go to another brand, be prepared for lots of stupid details.

well that seemed to open the gate.
Some great responses.

I'm going to hang on my "60" for awhile but if I see an 850 as a lost leader or very cheap, I'll spring. I live in Canada and not many places sell the Casio. But Future Shop does and I like their 10 day warranty plan. If you don't find satisfaction in those ten days..take it back. No problem. Best Buy doesn't stock it here.

I looked through the stats and reviews of every camera that was ever built before going with the Z850 it is a perfect all-round camera, especially with the updates just released.......it is the BMW of cameras! It is sleek, functional, powerful, sexy, technologically advanced, and a good value! ..... The ultimate photography machine!©
