i always wonder about how i compare to others in going out to take photos.

i compare it to say, how i used to ride, i used to go out and "ride", now i go out and "take photos" i used to ride at least once a week, and now i try and get out at least once a week to take photos, yet, its not as easy, cos you cant really(it would be boring to) to shoot the same thing all the time, whereas you can ride the same track at least a few times.

the other side to this is, i really, REALLY want the 17-55, im willing to sell my 7-2-f/4 and sigma 24-70 just to get it...(yea i know i could get the tamron, but the lens lust would never stop till i get it!) but then i know ill be thinking that i cant justify the cost for something i only use once a week or two...

so how often do you get out to take photos?
cheers-

Normally, I get out at LEAST twice a week to take photos, or do something related to taking photos, perhaps scouting out locations for posed shots, getting ideas, etc.

We have a VERY active club here ( http://vbpc.org ) so there is always something to do/shoot/see.

'LIFE.............is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - What A Ride!'

I try to carry my camera with me everywhere I go..

I work in midtown Manhattan, so when I go out for lunch, I lug the ol' 20D with me, just in case.

Yesterday, I saw Susan Sarandon at Times Square. Rockefeller Center also always has some interesting scenes.

And of course, the walk to and from the train station.

One good thing about working freelance is having more free time.

Cheers.

My husband was unexpectedly taken very ill in November 2005 and has been recovering since, although he's getting back to normal now - or at least as much as he's likely to be, so our domestic routine has been somewhat disrupted. His health and reduced energies has meant I've had to do many tasks I never did before, eating into my time and ability to accept offers, make trips, get out on my own etc. And once you can't accept an invitation to photograph an event, they just don't ask again. I've lost a lot of (obviously fair-weather) friends and contacts during this period.

So although I always carry a pocket camera, my hours with a DSLR were seriously diminished in 2006 - my recent shot rate is a fraction of what it was before his illness and it's driving me nuts! We're starting to take up routines and practices we had before this period again now, so 'normality' is returning, but I've been perpetually frustrated in recent weeks. Not helped by me injuring my back - ironically, I tripped over a stone when taking a photo and was so busy trying to save the 20D, I pulled my back.

I had an odd and very realistic dream last night, just before the alarm went off - I was trying to photograph a gig (the set up itself was odd) and my 20D appeared to have been stamped on - the CF door wouldn't stay shut, I couldn't change ISO or see what it was at, so I was wiggling things and looking at the shutter speed to see what I thought it was at. It made a horrendous grinding noise each time I took a shot and when I looked at the camera, it was a really odd spherical shape.

So I had to unlock the 20D this morning to check it was okay - and fire off a few shots. Thankfully, I could change ISO just fine, so I did it, just because I could.

I'm really looking forward to Easter and getting away with some fresh air and hopefully some better opportunity to take photos - I have serious cabin fever!

KIDDING!!!

I admittedly don't get out too often in the winter except on trips to warmer locales, but hope to get out a lot now that spring is rapidly approaching. Over the winter we moved to a different state so I hope to start discovering the area!

...AS OFTEN AS I CAN!!!

U pay a price for a passion, how your passion does it cost for u?

I worked (as photographer) so hard to pay my gear, I spent so many ours with my camera and not with my girlfriend, but I'll do it more and more times cause I LOVE IT!

The PASSION HAVE NO PRICE: think about it and live your passion!

I am shooting for work almost every single day. If I am on the road and have a few hours to kill, I try to jot down a good scenic sight and visit it. I take my basic camera with me every time I drive.

One time it came in handy when someone hit my car on the freeway. The other driver was at fault but he tried to say I planned the accident because I was snapping away with my camera. I told the police officer I was a photographer and gave him my business card. Like why would I drive backwards to hit that guy on the freeway.

Average one day on the weekends, weather permitting, plus for a few "occasions", may be 3-4 times a year.

Being retired, my wife and I get to travel some and I'm always snapping away.... she's very patient when it's just the two of us and I can take my time; however, often there's another couple involved and I have to shoot at a reasonable pace to keep from holding up things too much (if it's a great subject I will take the time).....also at family events where I'm now expected to record the gathering and distribute the photos online...a password protected family album on pbase is great for this.

Since I bought my 20D three years ago and it revived my interest in photography I've started to go out by myself just to "take photos". I very much enjoy the relaxed pace and some time to myself on these excursions. I probably do this once or twice every month on the average and it has produced some of my better photos. Here in the US Northeast, in autumn every landscape is at it's best, splashed with color.

I find that I'm always looking for likely subjects when out for other reasons and will often return to the scene with my camera in hand when I think the light will be good.

I take my camera with me to work every day. I have an approx. 30 minute drive and several roots I can take so I stop sometimes on my way to work or on my way home if I see something interesting or the weather is cooperating etc. I sometimes go out on the weekends but not as much as I used to. There are plenty of days I don't take pictures at all, but it's nice to have my camera just in case I see something interesting. I can't say for sure, but I think most of the photos on my blog are taken on my trips to and from work.
