707 for 499 (yep 499)

Go to Barnes and Nobel, purchase the magazine Digital Camera Dec
2000 issue with a picture of the 5 mega pixel showdown on the
cover. On page 75. there is an ad for a 707 in the upper left hand
corner for 499. Take that ad to Sears, Wal-mart, Best Buy, Circuit
City or anywhere that does price matching.

I went to my local Sears store. For 77 more dollars, I purchased a
over the counter replacement warranty (two years) that will give me
a new camera if mine ever fails to work properly, no questions
asked. For 576 dollars I have what most people pay twice that for.
Do what I did and you can have one also.

FWIW, apparently, the Sears' employees involved were not aware of their official Price Match policy. Go to the Sears web site - http://www.sears.com and under "Customer Service" look at "Pricing Policy" and you can see that Sears will only match prices from certain designated stores, which do not include the cut-rate on line stores. Here is their official Price Match policy as contained in their web site. Our local Sears store manager is very much aware of their "official policy."

"If you find a lower price on an identical branded item currently available for sale at another local retail store, Sears will match that price. Just tell your sales associate at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase.

If you find a lower price (including shipping, handling and delivery) on an identical branded item currently available for sale and delivery in your area from an established online retailer (see list below), Sears will match that total price at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase.

Just print the ordering page, including shipping, handling and delivery, and bring it to your Sears store at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase. If you are purchasing online, email the information to [email protected].

Exclusions

Sears will not price match competitor’s bonus or free offers, special offers, rebates, financing offers, clearance or closeout prices, or prices on used, damaged or display merchandise, service contracts or automotive services, or installation, delivery, or assembly services.

Sears Price Match Policy does not apply to Wishbook.com, PartsDirect.com, Sears licensed partner websites, "Sears Presents" and Sears Shop At Home catalogs.

Stores in Puerto Rico, Alaska and Hawaii will not match online prices.

If you see nothing wrong with the transaction you have my sympathy.
Of course, it's a lot easier to call someone a con man long distance.
None of my business mind you but I don't think he conned anyone.

I've done price matching before to get a good deal and that is how
they set up their policy.

I see the 707 is less than all the rest of the other Sony cameras with the exception of one. Obviously an error. I noticed that A&M isn't even listed in mySimon distributors today. In cany case, Sears won't honor A&M, at least, not where I live, and I went to three different Sears stores. All they say is "no", or it's under consideration.
By the way, now everyone can stop bickering and get on with some
photography, and show some respect to each other.

Cheers

Basically, they match anyone who sells the item for full retail, just as Sears does.

Well, like I said, Sears needs to pay more attention then if this is what happened and I do think that although you may voice your opinion, you really should consider NOT insulting people just because you can.
Like saying the guy conned them.

If the on-line retailer is not on the list, they won't match the price. They will match the price of any bricks & mortar store in town. However, you won't find a big difference in price in the bricks & mortar stores.

Conned? Remember This is a public place. I suggest you apologize
before I turn this over to my attourney that is over paid for doing
little or nothing.
Now I know you did get such a deal. Acting like such a silly man to want to go to court over being accussed of conning someone. You are simply rediculous.

My advice to you, stop paying your lawyer, and buy a camera.

Slander is a serious matter. My only wish was to help others with
information they requested. Might I suggest you drop out of the
conversation before you get into serious issues you do not want in
your life.
Maybe you should call this over-payed lawyer of yours - and ask him what the difference between slander and libel is.

So.....

Sears sets a policy, a marketing ploy to get people to buy from them. They say they will match ANY ADVERTISED price.

He takes the ADVERTISEMENT to the store. Sears matches the price, like they state in their Price Matching Policy.

Now...if the Ad was bogus, or doctored up in some way. Then yes, I'd call it fraud.

If it was a legitimate ad, run in a legitimate magazine, it is perfectly legal and moral as far as I'm concerned, and FAR from being fraud. Doesn't matter one inkling if A&M will actually sell a camera for that price. (And if they don't, that's called False Advertising and against the law....and I still dont' understand how these shops get away with it constantly). It was an ADVERTISED price.

Sears(or whoever) wouldn't have such a policy if they couldn't afford to....they're in the business of making money, not giving it away.

Your analogy of tag swapping in this instance doesn't hold any water.

I really don't see any moral issue in it.

A store that has treated me with respect, that allowed me to try my camera(s) without any return fees and I returned them.:), and a store that matches low prices , is a store I hope stays in business. What I heard here tonight is sad, sounds a little like taking advantage of people and unfortunately the people who act responsibly might ultimately end up paying .(You and I )

My guess is the people that are the most offended by what I have done are upset that the local Sears store turned them down, or they are 2 limber di* ed to take Sears up on their price matching deal or hold Sears to their word. If Sears or other retailers are going to offer price matching, they had better know what they are getting into.

Of course I am not going to litigate web people for having bigger mouths than manhood. People with flapping jaws exist and will always do so. My pointing out their nature will only make that fact worse. I know this. I fail to see how my using current store posted policy is in any way a detractor in my honesty or my credibility. It is not an unlocked door - thief in the night issue. It is a posted policy on the front door of one of America’s leading retailers. Did they make money on this transaction? Maybe not. Do they make money on the promotion of price matching? If they do not, they will modify or drop the policy. My only wish was to answer a inquiry by someone here about price matching. As I had just done so, at a great price, I offered what I knew about first hand. I make no apologizes for my actions. Sears knows my phone number if they want to renegotiate the deal.

Sears has my number. They have had it for many years, as I am a regular and loyal customer. What we have here is a person (you) opening mouth and inserting foot. You asume I had some evil intent. Why? All I did was gather together a magazine and head down to my local Sears store and ask them to price match. They could have said no. I would not have made nearly as big a fus as you have here. I have spent over 4 thousand dollars on camera equipment in the last month. I have done so because I have discovered a hobby I enjoy that gives me pleasure. If it gives you pleasure berading people over the net for actions you do not understand or choose to sque, I understand, I guess. I feel sorry for your small mind.

And bullsh*t threats like that are supposed to be acceptable behavior? Give me a break. The way you live your life each day should be based on more than what you can and cannot sue people over. How about ethics and morals? Avoiding needless, unbacked threats would be a start toward that end.

I could say anything I wanted to with regard to you, and who would care? You have a seriously warped mind if you think that anything that is said in a public forum such as this would carry the slightest amount of weight in a courtroom. And if you're pathetic enough to pay a lawyer to do little or nothing, why don't you have him inform you of just how useless that argument is? It's a public forum with no real authentication. That means that I could be anyone, really. Hence, no legal merit to much of anything that I might say.

Try not to wave your fancy talk around in here in such an asinine manner next time; no one gives a damn about you nor your overpriced "attorney."

Since I can't purchase the magazine (I'm in Australia) will Sears price match from a print-out on the net? I am hoping they will because a freind of mine is in L.A. on Friday and will be buying my 707, the link below is what I hope they will accept as a print-out. I have phoned some of the big retailers (BestBuy, CC, Sears, B&H) in the U.S. from Australia earier this week and they all said they would not budge on the $999 price even if I wanted to buy a s# t load of accesories. I was hoping I could buy the 128meg stick with the 707 but if nobody is willing to budge on the $999 price the MS won't won't be happening, my budget is $1000US :
