Reading about PMA, and the review by Phil show no mention or photos of the S5. Am I missing something here? I would have thought it would be out on display, but it appears not? If it really is not on display there, I am shocked.

So I guess we can conclude the USA release of the S5 has absolutely nothing to do with the PMA show in Vegas. It must be the fault of (you guessed it) the Big Brown Trucks.

Guess I am fortunate my printer came Fed-X. lol

Also the price is dropping in US & Canada for the S5. The Canadian USA conversion gets it down to seventeen hundred dollars.

Gary--

The promised delivery date of the S5 Pro was "February 2007." You'll recall that the camera began appearing in U.S stores right on February 28, 2007, just making the deadline. Given the poor capabilities of Fujifilm USA, we're probably lucky to get it before mid-March.

Some of you were lucky, some of us are still thinking about our next move.

Gary,

You're correct about the no images part but Phil wrote :

"The S5 PRO digital SLR is, of course, on show, and for the first time it's actually a shipping camera, rather than a mockup behind glass."

I think Phil replied in a different thread that he had received a S5 but did not have time to review it before PMA. Maybe the S5 at PMA is a no news item until he has a chance to run it through its paces and write the review.

Now the S6 under glass .... now that would be news!

My question is, 'Does the CCD in the S6 really photograph the grass greener?"

I think Phil is going on the trickle of shipments being reported in the forum as well as some retailers having them in stock, not realising it isnt immediately available in most US camera stores.

There has been no press releases (unless someone didnt get the memo to release the memo hahaha ), no mention of the different s5 packages (such as the Pantone Huey bundle), accessories arent in stock, even from Fuji.

Plus, if you havent noticed - official production reviews worldwide have not been published as yet, indicating there is still an embargo in place.

Unless we are seeing incredible incompetence - the official release hasnt happened yet.

There have been rumors that the S5 is a total release of 500 units. I doubt that possible, tooling up for such a small order would never make money, but it is looking odd that a new camera is getting such low coverage.

Who knows? Maybe that 500 figure is all what they received from Asia on the initial shipment.

I dont know, maybe they had production problems or supply problems from Nikon on the bodies, as Nikon switches production to their newer products.

Who really knows, but Fuji?

That theory would explain quite a bit though.

explains a lot as well.

Or Fujifilm didn't have a lot of cameras to hand out to reviewers. That's been known to happen, and the current marketing geniuses at Fujifilm probably didn't get a review camera out to anyone.

Hence, the reviewers are waiting for a production level camera...while people like me already have them.

Gary,

Excuse my saying but don't you get enough attention at home or what is your problem? What happened to you? Weren't you ready to buy your 5D or what? Why are you still hammering Fuji? Get a Canon and deal with it and while you're at it, spare us of your insightful observations.

Sincerely yours,

I have mine.
Got it Monday from B&H.
Truthfully I didn't expect better results then I get from my S2 or S3
I was wrong!

The first thing I notced was it's fast. Like a hot rod leaving the old models in the dust. Even better is the LCD. I was amazed that the view on the screen pretty much matches the file when it is opened in PS.

I used to shoot manual using the histogram and not relying on what it looks lke on the LCD.

Well not any more. I have taken over 200 test shots of everything from a black car in the snow to available light shots at 3200 and am in love with my S5.

I shoot JPEG most of the time and the files open without needing much tweaking if any.

I have read many post trashing the softness of the captures, the grain in high ISO, questioning whether the S5 is a real phothgrapher's tool or not.

The S5 is here and it's for real.
