Better a plastic body (there can be a H U G E difference between
plastic and plastic) than a metal body which makes it more
expensive.
Nothing worse than a perfectly good product ruined by cheap build quality. I would rather pay MORE and get a nice metal finish. There are plenty of plastic toy cameras out there if that's your thing. Even Apple, who arguably produces some of the finest plastic products on the planet, knows where to draw the line, and dumped their scratch-happy plastic iPods for nice metal ones.

If the lens and sensor deliver exceptional image quality, as they should, and the build quality is decent (I don't mind plastic over a megnesium alloy body, as with my Sony R1) I'd be up for paying around £400, the same as a Ricoh GR-D.

I appreciate that the DP-1 is (especially sensor-wise) more camera for the money, but the Ricoh is a real niche product and I'd guess Sigma would like to shift bigger numbers than that.

Plastic over magnesium. Ugh! How about just magnesium. Period! That metal hardly reacts with anything. It's a beautiful metal.

How about a compromise? No plastic but if they want to do carbon fiber I'm on the bus.

... the sd14 and the canon g7. I'd guess $8 bills.

I'm hoping the price will drop after the enthusiasts get their hands on one. Price depends on image quality compared to an SLR. If I can get better image quality from a cheap SLR than I'll buy an SLR. If image quality is the same I'd rather the DP1 because of size, movie mode, and fovean color detail.

Of course if it has a 1080p movie mode than I'll definitely pay a premium for the camera. I'm thinking the competition for the DP1 is a pentax with a pancake lense. I've this on sale on ebay for $600. What do you think the competition is? How much does the competition cost?

$600USD, maybe $700. But I'd be more inclined to buy it at $600.

best if Sigma price it at $500, this will attract a lot of people (Prosumers) that don't want DSLRs but wanted DSLR image quality.

Strangely enough thre's no mention price in the press release.
No price is mentioned simply because the release of the camera is far away (half a year ? ... more ?). They could not deliver the camera now, for PMA. Instead, the next best thing was to release a cool website about the new camera. People will buy it (sorry for the pun).
