Hi all

I wonder if you could shed a little light on what could have caused this spot. the shot was very dark so I a bit of work in photoshop, but the spot was there beforehand. Its a terrible shot but I am wondering what could be the cause.

To big to be a dead pixel, doesn't look like sensor dust either, were you shooting into the sun? Does it appear on other shots?

It's flare, caused by having the sun just out of shot. Some lenses more prone to this than others.

Getting the correct lens hood for your lens may help.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies.

The sun was just to the side of the shot, it was taken with a new Sigma 28-300 with the supplied lens hood fitted, I have to say that so far I have not been overly impressed with this lens, but it may just be me getting use to dslr.

On another note.... what the heck is going on in that picture??
Looks like some sort of torture chamber LOL........accually its a trampoline with sides i think.

Ahh ok.. Ive just never seen a screened in trampoline... And a piece of what looks liek strapping on the mesh plays an optical illusion that almost looks like hes tied up.

Exactly!!! Because it looks at first glance like he is tied up and
in pain I thought the same thing LoL

A lens hood made for a 10x zoom is never going to be very effective, unless it uses the 24-70L trick where the lens length increases at shorter focal lengths. I doubt that it's easy to design a lens to work this way.
