D80X

I posted another thread, as I didn't see this one.

I have a feeling we will see either a firmware upgrade that includes the new NR algo of the D40 (if the CPU can handle it). If not, I would expect a D80X with the same sensor, but a more powerful CPU, added software features, and better NR.

I actually have both.

Each one has its own role.

I use a full frame flagship in the studio.

I like the layout of the D40 and its size over the D80.

I like the way the menue (or part of it) shows at the back. (on the
2.5 LCD).on the D40.

I think that Nikon have hit the nail right on the head for new
buyers with the D40X.
I'm confused. Then why are you saying it doesn't make sense for
Nikon to have a D80 and D40x with both cameras using the same
sensor density?

-----------------

Because there are now 2 10mp cameras where as before there wasnt.

Personally if I had one choice now between a D40X or a D80 I would go for the D40X - other people might say the opposite.

Its no longer anything to do with the sensor - its (in my opinion) more to do with the way each individual camera feels , and the way that the menue is set up.

People say that Canon also do a excelent similar spec camera ,but the Nikon ones feels more solid , so people might buy the Nikon because of that reason.

The fact that other people would say the opposite indicates that there are other features besides the MP that are deciding factors for buyers. And that's the way it was for film cameras, so I don't see why you think this is so out of place for Nikon now.

Just like in the film days.

D40 - Prosumer or P&S user

D40x - For existing DSLR owners to have it as spare, or richer Prosumer or those P&S that are more concern with Megapixel
D50 - For those intermediate that would wanna use AFD lens esp prime
D80 - For those D50 and D70/70S to upgrade

D200 - For those that value pro-sealed body, ability to meter on AI/AIS lens, handling, optimum weight, viewfinders info, and 2-mode Autofocus... :)

Historically, an "X" designation has been used as an indication of MP increase (D1> D1X, D2H> D2X, D40> D40X) when the body otherwise remained basically the same, except for the electronics/processing to accomodate the higher MP sensor. An "s" designation has always indicated feature improvements, for both film and digital cameras.
