S30 case

This thread may be old news by now, but here's my experience.

I spent a bit of time finding the right case for my S30. I actually was looking for a case that would fit the camera, a spare battery, and at least one extra CF card for use when hiking. But I also wanted a case that would hold all of the above, plus the battery charger and A/V cable for extended vacations where I'll need to use the charger.

So I got 2 cases. The small one is made by CaseLogic (# CBP1) and holds the camera, spare battery, and CF card(s). It has a strap that you can insert a belt through, but you can also use a caribiner (sp?) to clip it onto your pants' belt loop. The case is also small enough to fit into a jacket pocket. BONUS: It was only 5 bucks!

The larger one is made by Tamrac (# 5220), and can hold the CaseLogic case, the battery charger and the A/V cable. It has a shoulder strap, too.

I bought a Case Logic which fits perfectly. It is smaller than the one that is shown in the previous post. It has a small pocket in the front just large enough for an extra battery and a CF card. It also clips to my belt for the ultimate portable case. Believe me I am crazy about getting just the perfect case, I've tried them all. For portability, THIS IS THE ONE.
I will send a photo if anyone is interested.

Yes, I'd like to know! The one I got has the following dimensions:
3.34"L x 2.75"W x 5"H

I can't imagine getting much smaller than that and still squeezing in the S30 with a spare battery and CF card!

Hi Matterhorn,

After using the link you provided and check out caselogic site, yours sound good! In the same time, it seems that Caselogic DS-1 is pretty good too.

What was the model number of Matterhorn's case? I could not find it.

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

Matterhorn's case is CBP1 and here is the link:

What do you think? Hope this help! :)

I am finally satisfied with my s30 bag. I was looking for a new bag for about 2 weeks and failed to find something small but still functional – soft inside, easy camera move in/out, folded top (for rain protection), place for spare battery, additional card and travel documents.

I was almost ready to give up and buy Lowepro D-Res 10, when my eye caught Lowepro D-Res 120. It’s marketed as a belt bag for Palm devices, but I tailored a stripe from old camera bag and made my dream come true :). It’s slightly taller than D-Res 10, but the back wallet style compartment made the whole difference for me.

I bought the CPS50 case, which just fits the camera (a bit room inside), with a belt clip, and shoulder straps. A better thing is it is all leather-like Koskin and rain proof.

Hi,

I bought the Lowepro Z-10 the other day. it fits alright, but there's enough room on the side for it for slide around. my main objective is to have the tightest fit but have a extra pocket for a battery. So i'm wondering does anyone have the Z-5? if so, how does that fit?

What do you mean by "tailor a stripe"?

Also, I'm looking at the Lowepro D-Res 20 AW bag. I like it better than the AW 10 because it doesn't give the camera near as much side-to-side room as the AW 10 does. In fact, it fits snug side-to-side (and front-to-back)--it just has more up-and-down movement. But that doesn't seem to be near as much of an issue.

I meant that original case didn’t have braces for shoulder belt. So I took 2 stripes (about 2 inches long) folded them and tailored (with needle and thread :) to left and right of the case.

D-Res 20 has the same height as D-Res 120, but bigger in other dimensions (and doesn’t have a wallet-style compartment). But the obvious advantage is that you don't need to run around with the needle :)

I noticed that many of you opt for cases that hold only the camera, battery and CF cards. What do you do with the charger, USB cable, and/or A/V cable when you go on a vacation?

As for me, a couple batteries and the charger, which I leave in the room, and a nice big CF, 128 to 256 is plenty. I certainly don't need all this other
stuff or I would have bought the G2 if I were to carry such a large bag.
