Morning people: I was wondering if any viewers out there has either a extra or broken power cord for sale? By this I mean the cable side which connects to the Sony F707 camera itself and not the side which typically draws power from the wall outlet. I'm looking at the specs for the input to the F707 and it look's rather easy to put together an expernal battery pack outputting 8.4VDC from either a 7-cell Tamiya or Kyosho radio controlled car battery pack powering up the camera. I asked around and no one sells just the cable itself. I'd be willing to pay for one including shipping if some one would be so kind. There are many of you afficionados out there who probably have one lying around? If this pan's out I'd be willing to document possibly even provide one of these home brew external packs for your effort. Just to info share: the NPFM50 internal lithium-ion battery outputs 7.2VDC at 1.2Ah. My intent is to gang a total of 7 sub-C sized Nickel Cadmium together for the low price of 14 bucks total cost (provided I can source the cable). If this pan's out the bunch of us will not be at the mercy of Sony asking a minimum of 50 buck's/NPFM50 (depending where you shop!). I'll volunteer being the guinea pig validating feasibility and if it work's out I can see using D sized NiMH from Thomas Distributing. The good news is it works we can at least triple the run times on the Sony F707's with say an "off the shelf" 4000mAh D sized NimH. Sound's ingenious huh! Anxiously awaiting a [email protected]

Dave: Thanks for the quick reply back. Saw your post and all things considered it's not bad for a start. What I wanted to do was to make it a bit more refined and this could only be accomplished by making the camera side as "finished" as possible. My concern with cutting the connector is I would have to perform some delicate soldering on the camera side...not something I want to do simply because we are talking anywhere from 1.2Ah (from sub C's) to as high as 4000mAh from D-sized cells....have you seen what happens if you get a short running through D-sized rechargeables? I was going to use a car type 1-amp fuse on the battery pack and leave a real "healthy" run from a decent looking Sony cable. Your pic of the D sized cell's along with the Radio Shack battery holder would require either a gazillion turns of electrical tape or some really think shrink tubing to make it roadworthy. I simply cannot believe Sony would not stock this cable individually ...I've statused the Sony web site and made calls ..NG!

both my Sony camcorder and Sony-S85 came with
the same charger. I use them interchangeably.
So, if you happen to own a Sony camcorder...

I agree it could be neater if I used heat shrink sleeving. The soldering i s not a huge problem, you have to solder somewhere and my cut lead is about halfway - about 12 inches from Sony plug to line socket.

My inline fuse makes it clunkier. It would have been nice to hard solder cable to battery holder, but like you I wanted a fuse in the circuit.

BTW - why are you going for 7 cells - by keeping mine at 6 it gives 7.2v so it drives the camera but does not attempt to charge the battery. I was concerned that too many volts without ic control could fry the Sony battery.

Good luck with your search. I'll go back and tidy up my setup.

Why not just cut the power cord that you have in half, and insert a standardized power connector in the middle. This way you can continue to charge with the Sony charger or you can use your homebrew battery pack.

I often do this when I want to provide power to a device that uses a non-standard connector.
