Hello,

Where do you recommend to shop in canada (online or not) for a nice canon SD800 IS?

cheers

The basic ones... online, vistek, tigerdirect, cameracanada. In stores, your local photo shops (usually more expensive, but the advice is excellent in general), Future Shop, Best Buy.

There are probably others, but these are the ones that come to mind. You shouls search the forums since this subject has been discussed often.

For "bricks and mortar" stores, I like Henry's or Black's.

Depends where you live. I personally shop I Henry's both on-line and in their stores. They have stores in Ontario.

Well, I have had trouble finding a retailer who can compete with international prices. For top end equipment I usually use B&H on the web. If a local brick and mortar store could offer competitive prices I would happily keep my business in Canada.

For amateur quality equipment, prices are closer than for high end equipment. It depends what you want, but whatever you do, be a wise consumer.

I buy Canon so there is not a big issue with warranty. When you buy from the US, factor in the same GST/PST, and a small amount for shipping. No duty on camera equipment.

Depends on where you are but remember that walmart, Staples, futureshop, blacks and henry's (even Sears has this) all have price match quarantees meaning that shop around online or stores. If you find the best price (including tiger direct, canadacomputers.com, canada camera etc) and bring in the add and most times, they'll price match it or beat it by 10%.

That's not exactly correct, at least not for the Future Shop and Best Buy. They'll beat the price by 10% of the DIFFERENCE, so that a product they sell for $500 is available for $450 elsewhere, your price is $450 minus $5, not $450 minus $50. They also have some restrictions, e.g., it can't be gray market, there must be no restocking charge in the other store, and they wont price-match Costco or Sams.

That's what I did. Shopped online at stores like Henry's and cameracanada, and got a price match at Future Shop. Online price and brick and mortar piece of mind! Best of both worlds. Got my S3 for about 500$ last July, it is now 499$ at Future Shop, so I got a VERY good deal.

I stand corrected, it is 10% of the difference

Other restrictions include that the item must be in stock (I've had them call to verify) as well. Each store has their own policies on price matching but generally, I've been really successful with it.

The S3 is $429 at Staples with a 30 day PM and $419 at Black's this week with a 60 day PM. There's always a better deal out there as soon as you buy.
