Is there a photo and fax viewer program for Mac that is similar to the one included in Windows? I'm talking about the basic photo preview utility that's part of the OS. I love the printing options it gives me.

Also, is there a way to set the default printer settings on my Canon printers like I can in Windows XP? I don't really like the way it is set up on the mac and find the way the Canon driver/control panel is set on Windows better. Is there a way to access something that in OSX?

Don't know about the FAX viewer. I presume you are talking about eFAX. I use Pagesender when I want to send or recieve faxes. But I haven't recieved a FAX in over two years. Most people now scan their document directly into a PDF and email the PDF. In OSX choose "Help" from the finder menu bar. Type in "setting up your mac to receive faxes". Follow the instructions. If you save the FAX as an image file, you can view it with Preview. If you save it as document you can view it with "Textedit" or a word processing program.

You can view pictures and look at the metadata, and adjust them and print them from the program "Preview" which is in your Applications folder. This is just for quicklly perusing the images. It is not a robust image processing program. For that, you need to use iPhoto or buy Aperture.

Only my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it. Your mileage may vary! ;-}

I also missed the convenience of Windows photo and fax viewer when I switched to Mac. When you double click on a photo, Preview will automatically open the photo. But to go to the next one, you need to close Preview, go to the next photo and double click it again.

To scroll through a folder of photos, FIRST open Preview, then go to the folder you want to scroll through and you can view them one after the other just like you can in Windoes and Fax viewer.

That doesn't square with my experience using Preview with multiple photos.

Just select whatever image files you want to see and right click and choose slideshow. And there they are.

Or, after selecting multiple files, double click and Preview will show the first one and the drawer on the side shows thumbnails of the others. Just click on the image you want to see. It's quite simple.

You are right, but it does require selecting all the images you want to "preview" prior to double clicking to get Preview open. Not a big deal, but not immediately intuitive. But a great way to quicly review your images. You can even view EXIF and Keywords, adjust brightnes, contrast, exposure, etc. And you can print from Preview also. You can even crop images!
