Mr. Flash Any Good?

My 64MB CF card won't cut it with my G2. I am looking at getting a 256MB Mr. Flash CF card for $80. Is Mr. Flash any good? I am using a Viking CF card now, and while it's good, their 256MB card costs $30 more. --Why float through life when you can drive a BMW?

Yes, Mr. Flash is a good value for the cost.

Several of my friends and I each bought Mr. Flash 256 MB CF Cards for our G1's, G2, and PRO-90IS last fall, 2001.

The cards perform as well as the original CF cards that came with the respective cameras.

There are faster speed CF cards on the market, but the cost difference is significant and I suspect in the cameras mentioned in my reply, there is not a siginifcant difference in performance versus the cost.

Go ahead and get the Mr. Flash CF Card. You will have no regrets and will have money in your pocket to apply towards close-up lens', filters, etc.

Thanks. Actually I am now considering a IBM 1GB Microdrive/Microtech Cameramate CF reader kit for $300 instead. Does that sound like a good value?

I've explained many times that although Mr. Flash is adequate, there are better choices out there. Especially at the prices the high speed cards are going for these days.

I cannot find any facts that would support your statement that the Viking Card is "high speed" and that Mr. Flash is by definition is therefore "low speed".

Where are the facts that SPECIFICALLY support you claim?

I cannot see any difference between my Mr Flash and my Viking 128 MB cards.

Someone here tested a Mr. Flash card and found it on par with the Sandisk cards, which are slow. Mr. Flash seems to work well with Canon cameras, although there have been a few users with problem cards. Mr. Flash does have problems with at least 2 other camera brands. You get what you pay for, except in this case the difference in price is negligible. Why go with a slow card, that has not shown 100% compatability with all devices when a better card is $1 more? Mr. Flash might have been a good buy for the cost conscious when other cards were $50 more, but at this point there's no reason to buy them. I have a Kingston 256 myself. I tried to feed my G2 a Mr. Flash but she spit it, along with some nasty green stuff, clear across the room. My baby has descriminating taste. ;)

Someone here tested a Mr. Flash and found it faster than the fastest Viking. It is one fast momma! The Mr Flash engineering group are a former group of rocket scientists and that probably explains the speed they were able to achieve. You can settle for the average Viking (like the Norwegians know squat about memory...yea right) memory card. If you keep telling yourself it is better, maybe your can trick your mind!

I just got back from a week on vacation and used two Mr. Flash 256MB cards and two older 64MB Simpletech cards. I kept my 1GB MD in it's case. (Total 387 pix-didn't fill up all four cards).

I had no problems with any of the cards. I had posted some unscientific tests comparing the MrF, ST and MD and it looked like the MrF was slower writing to it than the other two.

I noticed no adverse affects while using the camera (G1) actually taking photos. I'd say that for "normal" use they're fine. There may be a specific use where slower writing speed would be a detriment, but not for me.

I download via a ZiO! USB card reader. I just plug it in, start the transfer and do something else for a couple of minutes. No big thing. I did not time the downloading.

These MF were the newegg $85 (+ shipping) ones that I got two or three weeks ago.

I use those two all the time on my desktop. It is a no hassle way to transfer files. I typically view, edit and print files directly from the microdrive, and only save the good results. It is like having an extra hard drive.
