The 2007 PMA starts next week. What are tha chances that Canon will still announce a replacement for the 5D which was so widely predicted by the self-appointed pundits on this board? Remember all that stuff about an Anniversary year for Canon and all that other % &#.

The chances are about... 0%. First Canon has to launch the 1Ds mk.3. This will most likely happen in September. Then we will have to wait for at least another year for a replacement for the 5D.

I will be in Vegas during the show and I am working on trying to get a pass to get in. Of course I would like to touch and feel a camera i will buy in a couple of months but I am hoping there will be venders displaying wedding albums. I see a lot of ads on--line but nothing like seeing the product up close.

chances: None and very, very slim.

You were all wrong last time, lets hope this is still the case. Meanwhile, I'll stick with my 30D for another year or until the 5D replacement is a reality.

... from Mamiya, just because I showed interest in buying some of their equipment.

Many companies/vendors who cater to pros will help you if you call them up and ask. What are you interested in? Find something you are thinking about buying (even album manufacturers/distributors), call up the parties involved in that business and ask them if they are exhibiting at PMA and that you are a pro and would like to go and see their product.

i shoot for the sports division of a pretty well known portrait studio and they will have two people at the show. They will not stay for the whole show and Sunday morning is when I would like to attend, so right now the plan is to hand off a pass to me. I hope they are not photo id type passes or passes that have names on them. It would not be the end of the world if i could not get in but it would be a shame not to since i will be in town shooting a basketball tournament during the same days as PMA. The manager of the sports division said vendors often give them extra passes so one still might show up.

The 40D might be a "reality" for many in this forum, but I don´t think it´s time for a replacement yet...

that there WILL be a significant announcement at PMA, either a 40D, 5DII, or 1DSIII because Canon is definitely losing momentum. Also, the 1DIII and the new 16-35II seem more like a first course and not the whole meal.

Why ? Because I'm finally committed to buying one in the next couple monts. Therefore, there will be no announcement of a 5D replacement until approximately 1 week after the return period expires on the 5D I purchase. At which time a substantial price drop in existing 5Ds along with a replacement plan will be announced. Book it.

Sincerely,

Mr. Lucky.

Interesting quote via Northlight website that's tracking the new Canon cameras.

"Canon senior engineer, Taki Somoishe, stated today in Las Vegas that the new Mark III Ds will ship in November in time for Christmas season. A 22mp full frame sensor with a new high speed chip coded Digic IV model. The camera will have a burst rate of 7 frames per second. The camera will not have a view screen similar to the 10 frame D model. The Mark III Ds will capture images in Jpeg, Raw and now tiff. More info to be announced in March"
