I am relatively new to the Mac platform ( 6 months). LOVE IT. Also bought a new Lenovo ThinkPad just before Xmas and returned it unopened for refund.

I do not want to ever buy a Windows OS again.

Can anyone inform me if there is any software that will EMULATE WinXP (and/or Vista) on an Intel Mac under OS X?

I do not want to contaminate my Mac with Microsucks products.

I do have WinXP applications that I want to run on my Mac that are fairly specialized 3rd Party products not presently supported under OS X.

What I am looking for is an emulator that will fool the Win apps that they are running under Win when in fact Win will not actually be on the machine.

Has anyone solved this problem?

Much appreciated in anticipation.

Parallels Desktop for Mac will run WindowsXP with no problem- Microsoft are creating problems for those who wish to run Vista citing security and other stuff. You can find Parallels at the Apple Store under productivity software; here in Canada the cost is $99.95CDN. Hope this helps.

You don't want an emulator. What you want is called WINE. And there is a commercial version of that for the mac called Codeweavers Crossover Mac:

It may or may not work for the applications you have, but is worth a shot. What it does is offer the WindowsAPIs native on whatever sysem you are on, so the application thinks it's running under Windows. You do not need to install Windows to have it work.

That said, Parallels works really well and if you have no other choice that is a great option. It's as close to haveing Windows but not having it taint your system as you can get with 100% compatibility.

I got excited - i need ONE app to run, one.

That would be nicer than using BC or Parallels - but i see that .net 2.0 isn't tested yet, and i'm sure i'd be the only person trying it too. Although if it got working..... i could be a hero!!

I see reference to a forum, but couldn't find it. Anyone have the link?

Thanks but the whole point I'm getting at is that I don't want WinXP on my machine. AT ALL. Both Boot Camp and Parralels require you to install WinXP... that's exactly what I am trying to avoid. Sorry if that was somehow unclear. I see the post for WINE and that sounds interesting...

If you are planning to run graphics apps, I'd really like to know how it does and if you have any success with it.
