I've seen press photos of the Silver Sony Alpha, and some pictures online. Even some guy's ebay listing had a silver alpha body with the minolta twin flash. So where are these silver bodies? Not that I want one, I prefer the black body, but I'm just curious. Was it just a Japan release?

Typical the silver bodies are Japan only. That is how the A100 is, It is how the 5D...errr Kiss was.

Jessops in the UK had the silver ones as an "exclusive" so I bought mine elsewhere to get the black one ;-)

So it wasn't 'just Japan' at least

You live and learn. At any rate, you live!

Seems the silver bodies are not that popular here in Sweden; some shops include silver body A100s in their cheaper package deals. Then again I have seen a few shops that actually charge more for a silver body...

But they do exist. I am happy I got a black one despite my purchase being one of those "deals" that supposed to be with a silver body. I simply like the look of black cameras more.

Are silver bodies more liked in Japan than elsewhere?

These 'silver' models are available in the UK - they are more gunmetal grey rather than white silver. Colour is a matter of personal choice although some seem to prefer the black version more as it tends to look more 'Professional '

The camera body joints are less obvious in the black model & tends to create an impression of more solidity.

This gey/ silver colour variation seems to be more popular in Eastern countries & it is often claimed that they have less tendency to overheat in hot climates which may be a consideration for you.

pixmania.com have the silver one too. However, the silver kit is 137 Euro more expensive than the black kit!!!
