Buzzy,

That would be a Slik EZ-Pod...

I love the thing, real light weight and it has a quick release button to raise or lower the pod about 6 inches for quick fine adjustments. (besides 3 telescopic adjustments) I got it at Ritz Camera for about $40.00...

When I'm hiking I carry it by hanging the strap over the top of my Tamrac 517 holster bag so I'm hands free...

Gotta go cool down...

Actually, Kim, he did post one responding to my post. He directed me to the "Samples and Galleries" forum if i wanted to keep posting portraits for feedback.

He hasn't yet said what he thinks IS appropriate here...

The problem isn't too many off topic posts, it's
too many people that think that their view of a
proper balance in the forum, their choice in a digicam, or
color of lace to put on a toothbrush is the "right" one.
Hold on while I put on my anti-flame suit...

Anyone else notice that a lot of posts here would better belong in
"Open Talk" or "Samples and Galleries"? I have no problem with
samples used to illustrate a technical issue with Olympus cameras
but I'm gagging on the volume of unrelated postings and images that
serve no purpose but to elicit "cutesy" responses. If you check out
some of the other camera Forums, this type of 'noise' is much lower
or non-existent.

By all means continue to post these here if you won't do so in the
proper forums, but PLEASE prefix the subject with "OT" for off
topic so that those that are seeking more technically useful
subjects can easily sift through these postings. And while you're
at it, why not include the Olympus model in the subject so that we
can easily skip past images from models we don't care to see?
Everytime someone has to click on the post to find out which camera
the samples are from, it causes yet another unnecessary hit on
Phil's server, slowing down the system for everyone.

I own 2 Olympus cameras. I like taking pictures. I like looking at other peoples pictures regardless of which camera took it. I like learning different things (be it photography related or not). I like meeting new people. I like to laugh. All of these likings can be satisfied whenever I come to Olympus Talk. Maybe not ALL of the likings get satisfied every time I visit, but I am almost sure that atleast one of them will. When none of my likings are satisfied here, thats when I'll probably stop visiting..........but I don't see that happening in the very near future (or the distant future either)!!! In my opinion, the majority of the threads and post on the forum do deal with digital photography in some shape or form.

If a thread becomes too OT for me, I look at as being a paper cut on my finger. I certainly wouldn't cut off my arm to fix the little-itty-bitty annoyance of the cut. I'd put a bandage on it (meaning I'd stop reading that particular thread) and press on with the next thread. I have too much fun here to let it stop me.

Jared - I just checked your profile - 26 messages since february
02,2002. You might want to choose your battles a little more
carefully. The next time you post a pic at samples and galleries
let us know so we can check it out, OK ?
Don't read too much into the profile. I've been using the Olympus forum for almost two years and have seen many come and go. The good' ol days some might say...before the ego stroking critiques outnumbered the technically useful postings in Olympus Talk.

Realistically, I expect things to get worse rather than better. It's typical of most forums to be less technically useful/interesting as its audience becomes more mainstream.

My apologies to you Jared, I did not mean or intend to make it
sound that you should leave the forum. Guess I took it personally.
I can take it. It has some truth to it , so of course, I do not
like it! Do you accept the apology?

Kim Kaila
Kim, no apologies necessary. My post was not directly at anyone in particular.

Your choice. That is what makes this forum great - the freedom of choice. Hell I just saw another of your posts and it was in the middle.

was i supose to post this at the top or bottom? I am serious, I
have been wondering. I try to post at bottom it there is a photo
involved.

I agree with Juli about deleting the photos. Also, when we reply to
a post we should insert our messages at the top of the post we are
replying to if we don't delete the first poster's text.
Oh jeeze.. Not that. Please. While I don't have a problem with top posting most people bottom post. Why ask those people to change? Just search usenet for "top post" and you'll get an earful.

Ego stroking critiques? As one of the "more mainstream" members of the audience I have to tell you that I find this last post an insult- as I'm sure you intended it to be. I've never resorted to name calling here or in any other forum but here I go- you are an arrogant snob.

I guess I'm glad that you're not happy with most of us and the things we post because I wouldn't want to be part of a forum that people like you would prefer.

Ah........the good ol' days. I remember those so fondly - when people were tolerant and kind to each other.

I recently told a friend that folks were really enjoying themselves on this forum and that someone would undoubtedly race in to see if they could create some unrest, since there are those who can't stand people laughing and bonding. Sure enough, here came Jared, right on cue. So.....I'm learning the ways of the new age - and rather than try to justify what goes on here, I'll just say what's on MY mind.

Jared, KISS MY GRITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Counseling is learning to live with your-self... I don't know if it would work for Ergo... Besides, if he changed, it wouldn't be near as much fun to visit here.
I can sum this "thing" up in one post. Jared may be a first born in
his family. Over achiever buy the rules type guy. Ergo may be the
baby of the family. Likes to play, have a good time, and get
attention. Then there are the middle children...the peace makers.
You know who you are.
So since we are one big happy family, and to borrow some words from
rodney king, "can't we all just get along?"
I am also a first born, but i have had counseling for that. My wife
made me.

hippp
I am LOL! I am the first of 3, but I think there is a bit of
1.2.&3 in me, besides the blond thing! Is that what counseling is
for?

Why? We like you just as you are . . .
when we reply is a good idea (usually) to save time and mem. space
on DPreviw base.

Sometime I forget to do this but do try.

When replying just delete the part of posts before your reply that
do not pretain to your reply - and/or delete the .jpg from pop up
pics of previous posts.

Now, should I have putin an (OT)

I got the impression that he doesn't feel he needs "valuable" information, but feels that most of the rest of us do and it's his duty to point us down the straight and narrow path...
... to someone who's barely been here 2 weeks and whose limited
postings since them seem to be primarily argumentative. I think
your original posting was correct. If Jared doesn't like the
flavor of the community, perhaps he should look elsewhere for
something more to his liking. Or better yet, he could stick around
for a while, pick up some valuable information, and get to know
folks better. The "flavor" of the forum has been known to change
from week to week. Maybe he will like it better next week or next
month.
