Too many off-topic posts in this forum?

.Hey Victor, do not get sared off! I am just as new and I posted and do not regret it! I even read this forum for a month before. I was scared because I do not know computers well and knew that I would have problems that I did not want to deal with. I can get frustrated easy! Like Juli has said, all around here in this forum are real helpful and nice. Not much flaming goes on here. Go for the posting of the photos and do not walk on egg shells.

Go for it!

and valleys. You just happen to have witnessed a peak. The appliance thing was a nice break from the norm and while most of the pics did not warrant photographic critique they did provide some much needed humor. It was kind of a bonding thing for some of the regulars who frequently offer each other actual substantitive advice, believe it or not.

As for posting pics on this forum. Some potential digicam buyers come to this forum to find out which Olympus product they should buy. Some of us post only photo's that need critique-ing and some of us post both photo's that need critique-ing and photos that we simply feel are outstanding in one way or another and want to share them with users or potential users of Olympud products. Rarely can you post a pic that doesn't get some kid of constructive criticism. And although I'm thin skinned I see the value in it.

Jared - I just checked your profile - 26 messages since february 02,2002. You might want to choose your battles a little more carefully. The next time you post a pic at samples and galleries let us know so we can check it out, OK ?

Now as I understand this whole thing, the topic is determined by the poster who originates the thread (the thread title) and any further posts that are irrevelent to the title require a (OT) to be placed at the begining of the reply so as not to offend someone following the thread..

Or do you place an (OT) in front of a thread in a topic that isn't revelent to Olympus cameras?--George, K2EWL http://wwwbg.tripod.com D-360L,C3000,C2100UZ +2 crummy vivitars and a whole bunch of antique film exposing machines

Hi Jared.

I do understand your point, and why you might think it's better, but I, for one, do not like jumping from forum to forum and when I want to show a photo I'm not about to leave one forum and go to another forum to do that. That's why I left Steve's forums when he broke them up into subcategories (photos:wildlife, photos macros, etc.)

Besides which, I'm not looking for a larger audience. When I show a photo its because I want to show it specifically to the people on THIS forum whom I've come to know and like.

As for the OT stuff- Maybe sometimes the playing gets a bit overdone but I do appreciate the laughs inbetween the serious stuff and when I'm not in the mood I just skip those posts.

Actually, I'm very impressed at the cleverness of the "fun" remarks here. And, needless to say, I much prefer silliness to competitve bickering and nastiness.

I don't think one will ever find a perfect forum but all things considered, I think this place is as good as it gets.--Olympus 3O4O and Olympus 21OOUZ http://www.pbase.com/ro2001

Thank you Jim, you said it perfect. I do believe that it was a peak to the sillyness that we had the last few days and it is not always like that.

Thank you

when we reply is a good idea (usually) to save time and mem. space on DPreviw base.

Sometime I forget to do this but do try.

When replying just delete the part of posts before your reply that do not pretain to your reply - and/or delete the .jpg from pop up pics of previous posts.

Now, should I have putin an (OT)--'Will it ever be noticed by a man galloping by on a white horse?'Kim

I keep track of this forum almost daily, I've really learned a great deal from it. Saying that, the one thing I have enjoyed the most, is the light hartedness, especially ERGO'S posts.--3020.2100Victor T

What do you know, I just learned something new in a OT post.--3020.2100Victor T

I can sum this "thing" up in one post. Jared may be a first born in his family. Over achiever buy the rules type guy. Ergo may be the baby of the family. Likes to play, have a good time, and get attention. Then there are the middle children...the peace makers. You know who you are.

So since we are one big happy family, and to borrow some words from rodney king, "can't we all just get along?"
I am also a first born, but i have had counseling for that. My wife made me.

You know guys, I'm blond and am having trouble with all this OT stuff. So if I mess up, I expect you to tell me.

You mean its not always this crazy on this forum? I'm disappointed. On the other hand, my wife has been travelling and when she gets home, she will not understand why I spend so much time "doing nothing" (just reading the forum) on the computer.

Anyone else notice that a lot of posts here would better belong in
"Open Talk" or "Samples and Galleries"?
But there is no sexy appliance gallery. Why not? Just kidding here, but we all know each other here and feel comfortable sharing our Olympus photos with each other. There is something to be learned from every photo I see here...
I have no problem with
samples used to illustrate a technical issue with Olympus cameras
but I'm gagging on the volume of unrelated postings and images that
serve no purpose but to elicit "cutesy" responses.
That's the beauty of photography. Certain photos have the power to invoke all kinds of emotional responses...I've also learned alot by looking at "cutesy" photos. Artistically and technically.
If you check out
some of the other camera Forums, this type of 'noise' is much lower
or non-existent.
I follow some of the other forums as well. This "noise" is what sets us apart from the other camera forums. This closeness and comraderie and at times just plain silliness. I enjoy the serious posts as well as the silly posts...It's good to laugh...
By all means continue to post these here if you won't do so in the
proper forums, but PLEASE prefix the subject with "OT" for off
topic so that those that are seeking more technically useful
subjects can easily sift through these postings.
This is a good idea...
And while you're
at it, why not include the Olympus model in the subject so that we
can easily skip past images from models we don't care to see?
I personally don't care what camera took the photo. A good photo is a good photo no matter what model camera took the shot. This the Olympus forum...

I won't not open a post because the photo was taken with a C4040 for instance and I use a C2100. If it's a good shot, I can enjoy it and learn from it...

Stick around, have some fun while we all learn together...

Bob
