CF memory price - seems to be plummeting

Any idea what speed this
might be G. ? - looks like 'dane-elec' cards - and for the e-1, it
probably matters little.
7day shop do change around brands, but a guy on the Kodak forum
just bought one and yes, it was a dane-elec or whatever. 133x I
believe.

G.
The £17 card isn't 133x
well the one I got last week was............it's keymem 133X

as suggested you take's your chance at that price ie anything can turn up but that's what was shipping.

As I had paid out for the danelec 133x at the same time I didn;t know whether to laugh or cry - but compromised on being happy with 2 x 4gb 133x for £60................

I can second that notion about getting an undeserved negative off your account. I was a victim of feedback extortion, where the seller was trying all kinds of stuff against the eBay rules at the threat of leaving me a negative. I finally left him one (since he kept my returned item and the original payment), but took the negative hit in return.

Eventually, through my blog site, I ended up drawing a lot of attention to this guy's eBay practices. Even though he was an eBay Powerseller with over 25,000 feedbacks, the 500 or so people who actively responded to my blog article helped to eventually get the guy ARRESTED...twice...by a joint task force of the FBI and local state attorney generals office (New Jersey) on multiple counts of Theft by Deception. Even after the first arrest/charges, eBay still allowed this clown to operate (using the same tactics) for over a year. Finally, after the second arrest and hundreds of people complaining to eBay about still letting him operate, eBay finally caved and kicked him off. This guy was written up by Entrepreneur Magazine as an "eBay Millionaire" and everything. It was a long, slow fall, but it did eventually happen. After multiple emails to eBay customer support (the last one asking them to forward the matter to their legal department), eBay FINALLY removed this guy's negative feedback from my account. The rest of this seller's victims had to go through the same multi-email process in order to get their received negative feedback removed as well, as eBay wouldn't automatically remove all feedback from this guy even after he was arrested for fraudulent practices on eBay!

You can read all about it here:
http://www.MotherFatherCockerSpaniel.com

The rest of my blog is just fluff, as this guy was the main reason I kep the blog going for the last two years!

I guess that explains the $14 deal (with rebate) I got on the 4GB Kingston 45X CF card from Adorama. I was even on a wait list for the purchase, but they still honored the rebate (and even extended it 45 days). Apparently, they have some inventory that needs to be moved.

hmm... I'd not even checked the 4gb... Any idea what speed this
might be G. ? - looks like 'dane-elec' cards - and for the e-1, it
probably matters little.
I have a 2GB Dane-Elec that I use in my E-1, to be honest it makes little difference to speed compared with the much more expensive Sandisk Extreme III I also use. The 4GB version may be a little slower in actual use because of different filesystem (FAT32 against FAT16) but at that price I'm tempted to give it a go.

I am looking for a good, cheap MP3 player that uses removable compact flash.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Also...How do you get the Paypal discount when buying the 4 GB card from B&H?

Hey Bob - This was more of an observation, given many of the 2gb to 8gb players will use the same memory we do in our cams. I would give it another 3 to 5 months? and see whats out there. 'Creative Media' seem to be a good blend of features & price? - but i'm no expert.
Thanks

I've not bought from B&H ever. Newegg seems to be very popular for memory? Good luck. A.

Have a look at Scan too. They have several different speeds listed and the 4GB x66 looks good at the price. Their service is rather better than 7dayshop, especially since I live only a few miles from their warehouse so I can go and buy over the counter :-)

I've always been irritated by the ebay feedback system since it allows sellers to effectively hold your feedback hostage until you leave it for them despite the fact you've paid immediately and done your part. It means I've ended up not leaving negative feedback when I probably should have done although I've not had anything as bad as what I've been reading on your site.

Well done in finally taking him down, I've never seen such blatent misuse of the feedback system. Our dog at home is an English Cocker Spaniel as well so I like the URL ;)

to let you all know the outcome. I got an email this afternoon confirming the item had shipped with China Post.

For anyone interested, this is the Ebay UK item number;

130075853083

The seller does seem genuine, and it does say it's new with all packaging and warranty. But as I said I will have to wait and see.

I read the article about the scam cards, the photos for this one are of the genuine article. Nothing to say that these are photos of the actual item for sale though.

I'll let you all know when I get the card, should be in the next few 5 or 6 days I hope...

Will the Transcend 120x speed work with my E-1? I know the transfer speed is much slower on the E-1, compared with say the E-500.

I currently have an 8 gig microdrive in my E-1 and use it for weddings. The transcend 8 gig card for $86 is a real steal(at NewEgg). I just want to insure it works with the E-1.

I used to buy only slower cards because the E-1 was limited to 36X with earlier firmware. I read an article however

http://www.biofos.com/esystem/cfcard.html

which showed that upgrading to firmware 1.4 means the E-1 speed can be improved with faster cards. (Sandisk Extreme III tested here). Whilst you don't get anywhere near 133X, I bought one and there is a noticeable improvement in write times with the Extreme III over the Ultra II, but its only really noticeable with large RAW files, not so much with jpegs. At current prices, I'm happy with my purchase of the Extreme III. I have no idea if the write speed is similarly improved with other makes.

I am very proud of getting this guy arrested and kicked off eBay. I'm not fooling myself -- he'll probably be back up and on eBay soon (if not already). He's still operating an Amazon.com store, even though they've been notified, too. But it was worth it. He ticked off the wrong guy. My wife just rolls her eyes over it, but I really wanted to do something about this guy because I really like eBay, for both buying and selling. eBay's lack of action against him though was very disappointing to me, but at least they finally saw the light, even if it was under pressure.

I thought MotherFatherCockerSpaniel.com was a perfect name for a blog site, because it truly isn't what you say, but how you say it. When I used to use that phrase as a toned-down curse, people would really do a double-take and usually ask, "What did you just say?!" thinking I had something something really horrible. My teenage son got in a spot of trouble at (Catholic) school for saying it during wrestling practice. In the end, they thought it was funny, but too close to the real deal, I guess.

How can you get money back from Paypal?

I was scammed on eBay with a counterfeit sandisk card. I opened a dispute and made a claim.

But I had to send the card back to Hong Kong to receive refund. With the postage here in Norway I would almost loose money on doing that.
hopefully you used Paypal or CC to buy and will have some level of
protection.

Read this info

http://reviews.ebay.com/FAKE-SanDisk-Extreme-Compact-Flash-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001456539

If you think about it, Sandisk is a premium product sold thru
authorized dealers. There isn't any secondary market AFAIK. The
price right now for Extreme III 4G is US$120 (after rebate),
anything less is probably a scam.

I bought one of the fakes and had it returned for full refund
including shipping. If not for Paypal's intervention, I probably
wouldn't have gotten anything. The Seller I bought from also had
100% feedback and ALL of the people who bought them left positive
feedback until I notified them of the scam.

If it is a scam, DO NOT LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, it will bite you
in the a$$. Simply contact as many other victims as you can and
hopefully they will leave negative comments. Once you leave a
negative comment you attract a negative comment. Even if it is a
scam, you will have a hard time getting it off your record.

Yes, you have to return the merchandize in order to receive a refund.

Paypal will want you to settle the dispute with the Seller, but do not accept anything less than a full refund including delivery costs. If they won't then Paypal steps in and siezes the money from their account. Unfortunately, you will lose the return post costs. But this is a small price to pay for the benefits of a global auction system that has lowered prices on goods to the benefit of consumers.

There will always be shady characters who try to take advantage of eBay's weeknesses. I have to admit when I purchased one of these fake Sandisk cards, I pretty much knew in advance it was a fake. I even sent the Seller an email asking if it was a 'genuine' Sandisk. I did the transaction anyway to see what would happen and I have to say that Paypal was very helpful and finally stepped in to sort things out.

The most valuable lesson I learned - NEVER LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK !!!

Notify all the other suckers and let them do your dirty work for you ;)

And surprise surprise it is indeed a fake. A couple of people have now left subsequent negative feedback indicating the same problem.

This fake is very well produced, the box itself appears genuine, the following line from the guide is not correct. This box has the thick white colour band around the logo.

"On the '20MB/s' speed rating logo, genuine has thick white color band ring with 'LECTURE-LECTURA' below 'READ' and 'ECRITURE-ESCRITURA' above 'WRITE' enclosed inside the white band. The language is French and Spanish respectively. Fake usually has 'READ' in Chinese and 'WRITE' in Chinese characters and without the thick white color band ring and without these foreign language wordings. Beware of the sellers who have this part of the item picture consealed when selling."

But the card has pretty much all the characteristics of the fake.

Time to try get some money back I guess...
