Well, its less than a week away from the March 3rd parade I had planned to use the s5. With no clear indication that I'll be able to get it in time, I'll just rent a camera to shoot the event.

So, without the pressure to get the camera in time for March 3rd - I can put off the purchase of the S5 for a awhile then.

That means I have 2 grand of discretionary moolah burning a hole in my pocket!

Hmm.. buy a D200? A 70-200VR? Find a good used s3? Pick up some secondary lenses like the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and a 60mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor? A SB-600 to complement the SB-800 I barely know how to use?

Any suggestions? :D

I feel the same bulge in my pocket that you do, as I canceled my S5 order. I am feeling good about my decision, as I can always get one later. It may not turn out to be anything but a D-200 with a slower rate of speed. We will see.

My suggestion is put your cash in Gold.

If you do not like investing, how about a Really Big Printer delivered in a Big Brown Truck. That is the way I am leaning.

Good choice.

I really like the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 - I owned a Nikkor 35/2 but sold it recently - I think the extra 1 stop is more useful than the Nikkor's slightly sharper edges.

Hi! Now I'm going to sell my S2 and S3. Both are very good cameras and in good working conditions with the original boxes. Let me know if you are interested.
Alex.

With no s5's in sight thanks to the Baldricks at FujiUSA, I dont have a good primary camera for this weekend (m not going to do an event like San Francisco's Chinese New Years depending on one D50), Im thinking I am going to have to resort to this:

Purchase a D200 at a place that offers a 30 day return policy, and either return it after the event or - IF the s5 is being sold by the time I return it, I'll exchange it for a s5 and pay the few hundred dollar difference in price.

That way I dont have to blow 200 dollars renting, I get to learn the controls on a D200, and not invest in a camera almost at the end of it's cycle.

I usually dont buy things with the intention of using and returning them, but Fuji has driven me to this.

Hm. And I can use the MB-200 with the s5 ...

This shouldn't be one of your options. Try borrowing a camera from someone else before resorting to this tactic. Better still, don't even allow yourself to consider what you are suggesting here.

You know, ethically - it isnt something I normally do.

But, I know no-one who has a spare D200 or D2X to lend, If Id wanted a D200 - I wouldve bought one already, there are no s5's to be had at my online or local stores (overdue from vendor, they say), I normally need a week to a month to REALLY learn an unfamiliar camera. And the event I have been waiting over a YEAR to shoot and planned around is only 3 days away.

I actually took Fuji seriously when they said they would ship in January. Then February. They even have ads in February's professional photography magazines for the S5! I held off from buying an S3 in september last year because Fuji announced they'd have the S5 in US stores in February. One day left in February, and there is no sign.Yeah, my fault for believing them.

I like D200's, but I truly prefer the output of Fuji - most of the images Ive sold are Fuji, most of the owners dont believe they werent shot on film - that is why I dont want to buy a D200.

For me, not having what I had planned to shoot with BOTHERS me to an extent I am unable to properly express.

Michael, this isnt something I would normally do, and yes - I have other alternatives, but I am not going to.

Ive owned nothing but Fuji digital cameras since 1997. I only bought my first dSLR (the D50) after shooting the Chinese New Years and finding the s9000 barely able to properly capture the event. Oh, and shortly afterward, it died after 2 months of ownership.

Ironically,I told myself after the disappointment of buying a Fuji s9000, that the s5 is Fuji's last chance with me. Let us see how it performs at the Parade, a very good test of lenses and cameras.. Who would believe they would be unable to deliver that last chance?

This nonsense doesnt just feel like a disappointment. It feels like a betrayal.

And that's the honest truth.
