G7 Sensor Dust?

I have enjoyed my G7 for just two months. Lately, I notice three shadows on every image I take. It is more noticable when the lens is stopped down to f 7 - 8.

I am wondering if this could indicate dust on the sensor. The shadows appear in the same location on every shot.

I am further wondering if anyone else has experienced this. How can dust get on the sensor in just a few months especially when the lens is not removable?

By the way, I take exceptional care of all my photographic equipment. Cameras only come out of their cases when a photo is being taken and go right back in after the shot. I have never used the camera in any particularly dusty environment.

I am getting ready to send my G7 back to Canon for service...along with a nasty letter. I don't believe this should happen in such a short time after such limited use.

Send it in. No excuse for that. There's been some reports of dust. My first one had it IN the LENS. Which Amazon graciously exchanged at their cost, no questions asked. So far, no problems with its replacement. Canon does a good turnaround. The inspected my 5D and some lenses and I got it back way earlier than they predicted.

I have recently experienced a similar situation, after shooting for a couple of days in the arabian desert. I took the camera to Canon, and it turned out that it was just a spot of dirt on the lens.

I had cleaned the lens before, but apparently I did not do a good job:)

Why send a nasty letter? Just state your problem and have them rectify it. Repair guys don't make the cameras. Send your concern to corporate since they are the ones controlling quality. Nasty letters won't get you anything.

You're right, I shouldn't be nasty. I am just frustrated in wondering how dust may have gotten on the sensor when it is a closed system and I take such good care of it. The only time it is removed from it's case is when I'm taking a photograph and I haven't used it in any extreme environments.

It's not just one spec of dust, but about seven. I am wondering if this reflects the quality if dust can get onto the sensor so easily. I have used many diffenrent Canon camera model (the first was a 35mm FTb) and was always happy. I've only had this G7 for two months and have this problem.

By the way, I did clean the lens in the hope that that was all that was causing my spots. Thanks for that idea.

Anyway, I suppose it is going back for repair, with a nice letter.

Thanks for your comments.

Dunno if this happens a lot. With dSLR zoom lenses it tends to suck in dust when zooming in and out. It's like creating a vacuum with the zooming and then depositing these dusts inside the camera. I don't notice any dust when using single lenses. Maybe the same thing is happening with the G7 when it's extending and rectracting?

I don't put anything linty in the camera case that could cause this to happen including lens tissues. I use a microfiber cloth and shake it away from the camera before returning it in the case. And once in a while I also take everything out of the case and shake that too upside down to remove unwanted grits. You'll be amazed how much gritty things gets in the case!
