Pentax already have the news of the few new lenses, 645D, new flash few days ago. Just notice that it only gets published at dpreview front page now.

A bit slow no...? Canon news was up immediately...

the two DA* star lenses were already announced, the new lot that have been announced, had been seen by us lot but off some guys website. I think phil announces certain items only when they are officially announced

exactly. People really should lay off the "Phil is biased against Pentax" conspiracy theories. He's not allowed to release info until it becomes "official" same as with Nikon and Canon.

I know about the two DA* lenses, but there are some other news
which was published at Pentax website on the same date (22nd Feb)
as the star lenses news, but why only till today Phil announced the
other "news"?

Not saying Phil biased...but just curious why is it late?
oh, come on, drop the 'just curious' already! Just exactly why would one be 'curious' if some non-news is announced a couple of days after it's revealed on a company website. just which juicy tidbit of 'news' was so tantalizing to you that it would warrant immediate front page coverage? What exactly did you miss due to Phil's 'omission' to immediately discose the info as 'news'.

Let's be honest. There was no real news, in that nothing new was announced. So why are you curious? What exactly are you curious about? Because there are really only three possibilities here:
1) Phil missed the announcement on the Pentax page when it first came out;
2) Phil saw the announcement but didn't think it particularly newsworthy;

3) Phil saw the announcement but his anti-Pentax bias made him sit on the news for a little bit just so the Canon news would get the coverage it deserves.

Now options 1 and 2 are really not very interesting, and not really worthy of anyones curiosity. So what you're really after is #3, but you're not willing to come out and state this as your real reason for your original post.

Shame on you!

4) Phil waits for Pentax to send it to him which was not done with the first release.

I consider this the most likely option. Don't think Phil "actively" looks for these things. Just waits for the official release to hit his "desk".

5) Phil got both at the same time and waited a bit to release the second one, for whatever reason...... :)

Let's be honest. There was no real news, in that nothing new was
announced.
Actually the press release the op is refering includes 5 new lenses (4 k-mount and 1 645 mount) and a new flash.

I am not sure we can criticize Phil as we don't know when he recieved this info. I checked a few other photo news sites and some have this news listed and some don't.

I don't mind, it will take quite a while before you can buy the new products. And it's still great news!

Actually I think that this IS the most likely explanation. I have contacted the DPR team before about missing news items, often missing Pentax news items than the reply has generally been that Pentax didn't send them that particular release (on occasion they have also just missed a news release).

The missing items have usually appeared on the website after my queries but people have to consider the DPR team probably don't spend their time checking the various UK, US and Japanese websites of all the companies that might announce news looking for new releases.

DPR is pretty well established and all these companies will have a communications channel setup with this website and it’s down to them to utilise it properly.

I also believe that it’s down to these companies to monitor websites (and magazines) like this for their news coverage. Every region should be responsible for making sure that the media outlets that they consider to be the most influential are up to date on all their announcements.

To put it simply when the second Pentax announcement didn’t appear on the website by Thursday evening (24hrs after posting) Pentax UK or Pentax USA should have contacted DPR to ask if they were aware of it.

I’m not saying that the Marketing or PR departments of companies do actively monitor media outlets like this to ensure that news it up-to-date but I think that they should. It’s in their best interest after all.

Well, I remember when I had a Sigma SD9 and a few in the Sigma forum "observed the untimely announcements" by Phil. Seems people think that all their beloved cameras, not N or C, are being picked upon and shunned. Right. Just go take pictures.

What's more, the Pentax news seems to be less vowel rich and leans more on consonants than Nikon and Canon news.

Coincidence? Perhaps not!

Yeah, I saw the 200mm and 300mm lenses and news about the 645D on a Japanese site a few days ago. Too bad I don't read Japanese so I could not figure out whether the two new lenses will cover the full frame format. Turns out there is no word on that point in DP Review's report either.

Because this site is not as good as your site, is that what you want to hear? You are a troll. An admitted non-pentax owner. You have your own site with Pentax ads on it to add a professional appearance, but they do not pay you for these ads (maybe a copyright violation??).

Your only reason for posting here is to try and lure people to your lame site whose best posts are based on threads from this forum (with links).

I was also concerned about it, so much so that I stayed up all night wringing my hands in agony and wondering if Phil is going to bury Pentax. Makes me want to go over to that PentaxWorld where I will be safe and warm, and not have to pace the floor all night in misery.

Actually when Pentax produce a lens that is designed to cover full frame they explicitly say so.

From the part of the announcement about the 645D D FA 55mm lens:

\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

"smc PENTAX-D FA645 55mm F2.8

[...]

Can be used with existing PENTAX 645-series medium-format SLR film cameras"

/\/\/\/\/\/\/

From the announcement of the two D FA macros, the first lenses in the new D FA series:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0408/04080801pentax_lenses.asp

\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

"A New Series Designed to Optimize Image Quality in Digital SLR Photography

PENTAX Corporation is pleased to announce the development of the new smc PENTAX-D FA interchangeable lens series, designed to optimize image quality in digital SLR photography. The series also features an image circle covering accommodating the 35mm-format film. As the first models of this new series, PENTAX will market two compact, lightweight macro lenses for close-up photography up to a life-size magnification.

Major Features

[...]

2. Image Circle Compatible with 35mm-Format SLR Cameras

The new lenses features an image circle accommodating the image size (36mm by 24mm) of 35mm-format SLR film cameras. As a result, they produces high-quality images with edge-to-edge sharpness and free of vignetting, even when mounted on conventional 35mm-format SLR cameras."

/\/\/\/\/\/\/

And before any of the 'faithful' start talking about aperture rings let me point out that not all lenses for Pentax 35mm film cameras have aperture rings.
