before the internet and forums like this? They did it civily by reading photo mags, talking to fellow photographers, etc. Now they can actually get on a forum like this and yell at and be rude to people they don't even know. If they said some of the things they say in here to a real live stranger(which we all are in here) on the street (which is basically what this is) they know they would get their snotty noses busted. I'm not talking about voicing appropriate criticism, that's valid, I'm talking about the personal attacks, the immature, sophomoric rude and crude remarks, the kind of talk usually associated with school kids. Is this the difference between film and digital photography? Maybe we need to go back to film and photo mags and friends for advice. I'm sorry, not we, me. I'm selling all my digital gear and buying a Canon 1V HS tomorrow. Signing out now and I'm not coming back to hear all the nasty remarks directed at me. So there!

Good point Juli. Hadn't thought about it like that but you may have hit the nail on the head. Substance abuse can cause some people to be nasty, aggressive and abusive towards others. And this is the perfect place for that type of behavior with no fear of repercussions.

About 80% of the people who post on the internet (not just on this site, and not just photography sites) fall into the Always Angry People category. The internet has provided an outlet for people with a lot of free-floating anger, and people who are seriously in need of getting a life. It's the other 20% that make forums like this worthwhile.

Bob
I think Phil needs to split this forum into two sections:

Section: Happy People

Section: Always Angry People

It is amazing how mean people can be when there is no need to be mean.

alan

Maybe the remaining 20% feel their poop don't stink and feel superior to evryone else.

You really made my day. You know though that angry people like to
fight with the happy people.
Right on Chubly...

Grumpy people are angered even more when they confront Happy People. They want everyone else to be as miserable as themselves. :)

Regards...

Russ

Greater is He that is within me, than he who is in this world...

....and so we can conclude from that that maybe the 80% feel they are inferior and this is why they are angry???? Sheesh!

Actually I agree with Robert but think his numbers are flipped, 80% are pretty good people, it's the 20% that give us indigestion....if we let them.

Actually, the 80/20 split in the direction I suggested applies more to the people who post on sites like http://www.audioasylum.com . Audiophiles (at least the ones that post on the internet) are an angry lot, intolerant of differing opinions. People who post at dpreview are a lot better; many of them actually have an attitude of wanting to help others, and even discuss issues in a way that does not assume that everybody else is wrong.

Lets face it. Could you image some of the conversations on these forums taking place face to face? Never!

If they did, there would be plenty of bloody noses, missing teeth, and the occasional bullet hole. Provided they are sober, people’s self preservation mechanism generally keeps things from spewing out of their mouths that would cause personal injury. However on the web, there is no fear, because the person you are mouthing off at doesn’t know who you are, where you live, or what you look like, and even if they did, chances are they are thousands of miles away.

If you believe I’m incorrect, tell me when the last time some one talked to you in a manner as they do on some Internet threads? I’ll bet almost never I’ll bet.

Its unfortunate that people say and treat people so poorly in an environment that generally can be very beneficial.

agreed.. (except for the selling the digital equipment part.. :-)

I really do. And I generally AM, most times. But mean people p*ss
me off. :)
--
.....I too want to be happy but being mean to the mentally disabled is too much fun. :-)

In that case, anger management courses are likely available in that
person's area. Please consult your physician. [=
I suggest forum management courses.

Please turn off your e-mail.

Stop arguing with the riff-raff.

Then we could all be happy, happy, happy.

Trouble is you need to repeat this for Canon 10d/20d/30d due to no 40d, Nikon 100,D2x,d2h for Nikon not releasing a FF, d3h and lagging below in noise compared to Canon, Fuji Slr forum for Fuji S5 pro for being late and overprice + underdelivering, etc...

Oh I'm so glad you wrote this.... This is exactly what I wanted to say,
You saved me a long write, so I just thought I'd take the time to say
Thank You, and if we were face to face I'd buy you a pint... :o)

Cheers,
Rico.

because there will ALWAYS be a bunch of arrogant and rude people that have NOTHING good or constructive to say, just like RIGHT NOW!

I agree with the original poster

Agree. Would be an interesting exercise.

You could see which group came up with the greatest number of constructive suggestions and potential improvements.

The happy fanboys, or the angry miserable 'trolls' that think stuff could be improved.
