Does anyone know if it is safe to use a Vivitar 285 HV Flash Attachment with the Canon Rebel XT? I read somewhere that some high voltage flash units can actually "blow up" your camera (Not an explosion--just the camera's circuitry). Thanks in advance.

You should be fine. "The 285HV has a voltage of 12V. The 285 has a voltage of 350V."

I have used a 285HV on a 300D with no problems.

I thought the safe voltage is 6V or less. 12V probably won't fry your circuit, but it's still higher than 6V. I wouldn't take that chance.
