I was in B&H Photo today, and a salesman who I know and trust told me that his friend who works for Nikon in Japan was handling a Nikon D200S. He said its 12 MP, just like the D2xS. Interesting rumor....

Seems that this is not the first "far out" rumor from a salesperson at B&H. Seems as if they would put such a sensor in a new body though.

Interesting. I've got a D200, and it made think about whether I'd want to upgrade to a 12 MP version if true. I'm assuming the primary reason for a sensor upgrade would be to eliminate the banding-tainted 10 MP sensor and maybe tweak Canon a little in the process. For new buyers, having a sensor without banding would be a plus. However, having used the D200 since January, and having it adjusted once at Nikon, banding has never been a problem. Also, I'd be a little concerned about the noise level of the new sensor, and the need more computer power to process the files. So, let the speculation begin. I can live with the original version. :> )

I'd love one. Probably at least 6 month's before we'd see it though.

The only thing I would drop my D200 for would be for a body with a live histogram display inside the viewfinder. To be able to see the histo. without taking my eye away from the viewfinder , that would be perfection. I am assuming that Olympus has the patent on that feature?

I find the D200 is superb at high iso , meters very accurately, a great body. I can live with the slower fps vs the D2h. What are two megapixels going to do for anyone but slow down processing?

... the guy named "Jumbuck".

Ok, he wrote sometimes hard to believe statements and was sometimes very rude with our friends from the other side.

But I remember one post (ca. mid 2005) where he stated, that the D200 will have a 12MP Fuji sensor in it...hmmmmm....time will tell.
