Bi-Weekly WILDLIFE Pentax Thread 2/17

On my way to a hike (just north of a place called 'Moose Mountain' - no kiddn') and this fella (?) was by the side of the road. K10D, Tamron 70-300@300, plus Kiron 2x TC. ... he was PLENTY far enough away!

Mike,

That is one excellent GBH capture indeed! Great light, exposure, framing and detailed sharpness.

Don't forget to fill us in on camera/lens info and any other particulars you think might help those aspiring to make such a nice image as yours. Thanks for sharing.

This has to be one of the most enjoyable threads on the Pentax DSLR
forum. You hit a homerun Jay.

Hello Jay,

Sorry, completely forgot to put info with GBH post. Here it is now.
K10 with sigma 70-300 at the full 300mm
Shutter - 1/200
ISO - 160
Aperture - f9
Handheld

Photo posted was cropped.

Oh for sure, I think the problem is actually grabbing the image not the quality when/if it is grabbed.
Agreed, but this still doesn't mean that a photo from a Pentax
camera can not be as good as those from a C*non.

Dominic, as you may know, I am in awe of your birding captures and your skill, if I wasn't so far away, I'd be begging you to take me along on a shoot. I was born and lived in Quebec till I was 36, and just got back from the Gaspe coast at Christmas, where my parents are retired to, my father is from there.

I was acutally shocked at how little wildlife I saw in Gaspe, but I guess it's like any area, you have to KNOW where the best areas are to get the best chance and then, of course, have your skill (+: Keep them coming,

Domonic,

Those owl shots are very nice, some of the best bird pics I've seen from Pentax glass in terms of sharpness & contrast. Definitely on par with the "L" glass from the other forum.
Looking foward to more of your images.

Trying to keep the wildlife post alive - this one is from the archives , but I found quite nice. Taken with the *istDL & the Tokina AT-X Pro 400/5.6, a very hand-holdable tele that I may have to part with soon. I stumbled across this bird on a walk last spring. He obviously is pre-occupied with something other than my presence.

Vervet monkeys are common in parts of Tanzania where I photographed many while I was there for a month in 1990. They are very social creatures within their groups. Needless to say this wasnt done with a DSLR. It was my first film SLR, some Minolta with a telephoto lens.
