When I moved in here I asked where I could keep the Iron Pony (bike) I was told there is a bike rack out back.

Would you keep a $1,400 bike in this bike rack out back?

In a high crime neighborhood yet.

Both bikes are securely locked in with the best locks you can buy. But there seem to be some rather important parts missing. Ooops.

This is what I found out back.

The amazing thing is it was given to me as a replacement for an old junker I was riding.

One of if not the first full suspension bikes on the market. Those red things at the wheels? Hydraulic brakes yet.

Is it encouraging that the bike thieves have passed by a $129. K-Mart mountain bike and an old beater you could get for $25. at a garage sale?

I wouldn't feel safe about a $1,400. bike, unless it was double-chained to my bed at night and never out of my sight the rest of the time. I've taken a good mid-priced bike, removed all brand markings and re-badged it with a couple of big "Huffy" decals. This is the best anti-theft insurance you could get.

I'm glad to see we have a few cyclists on the forum. I compete in Downhill Mountain Bike racing and had done for a few years now

Here is my bike:

It's worth approx £3000 and is kept securely in the house - no chance would it be left on a rack outside!

It's actually for sale as I'll soon be receiving my 07 season team bike which is worth approx £4500!!

Sorry, I know this is a photography forum but when users discuss your other hobby you just can't help yourself

Chris, I'm also pleased to see some of our bicycling members reveal themselves. That's a wicked-looking rig you have and downhill racing is by far the most rugged and hazardous kind. I've been using hard bike-riding as a major supplement to my running and Kayak paddling workouts for many years. I even have a bike trailer to pull my boats to the river. I hope others will join the thread that Marion so innocently started. How many of us always pack a camera in our bike bags?

Nice!!

I'm hoping to post some photos from some of the Regional and National races that I compete in when the season starts in April.

You must do a very good job of keeping it under you rather than on top as I have too often done.

My bike is right next to the kitchen now. When out and about there is a very sturdy cable that goes through both wheels and the frame and something secure that the theves couldn't move. Missplaced the keys one time and had to have a security team cut a cable. Took about twenty minutes and a chip out of the jaws of a very heavy duty bolt cutter.

The frame is pretty much brand new as I cracked the original frame supplied and this one was a warranty replacement. It is a very serious bike but this year's race bike will be better!

Here is a photograph of me in action from last season:

Keep flying. ;-)
