I just tried the latest version of Parallels (build 3170) with my Epson R800 printer.

Previously, if I tried to print in color, I could not get high resolution, good speed, and observe ink levels without a major work around by using Boot Camp and a usb to ethernet converter.

Now, it provides everything I need with a straight usb connection. Way to go!

Please try it out and let us know how it works for you.

on the same hard drive? Ive already installed Bootcamp, but am thinking I would like to add Parallels. Would I need to uninstall Bootcamp and Win XP and then reinstall it under Parallels? Easy to uninstalll bootcamp?

You can install Parellels and tell it to use your Bootcamp partition.

Have you tried Qimage on Parallels? Posts on Parallels website suggest no one has got Qimage to run well in a virtual machine, probably because of the huge files it creates when upscaling an image for printing. A 700+ MB file is not unusual when printing 20x30" on a wide format printer.

Even with yesterday's new build I still can not get my Parallels PC to recognize my Epson R1800.

I got a Mac Pro several weeks ago, but I am still keeping my old Windows box running just to run QImage until this gets fixed.

I am running Parallels/XP and print to my airport express on a epson 340, using Qimage. I downloaded the bonjour for windows on VersionTracker and it was an easy set up. In fact I downloaded it for my PC and it prints to the same printer via airport express. There were several help topics on the http://www.Parallels.com website.
That's where I found the solution to my problem.

My largest files are about 40 - 60Ms.
I do not use large format; 8.5 X 11 borderless is my max.
No problems with Parallels and XP at all.

However, I do use a Keyspan USB server.
In my opinion it is the only way to go if you are going to do SERIOUS work
and using Parallels is not just a "hobby" .
With the KeySpan all problems with USBs and needing Bonjour go away.

I have a Kodak 8500, HP, Dymo LableWriter, and Epson all connected and all operable.

As for QImage running well - very suggestive. I think it runs well!

Not as fast as on Boot-Camp but fast enough for me, and far faster then any previous
virtualization program.

Why don't you just print from Macos? Do the drivers not support the older R800? I recently picked up the R2400 to go with my MBP and it seems OK, although I still have some calibration issues to work out.

I'm routinely printing with my HP B9180 up to 13x19 borderless utilizing Qimage and it absolutely rocks. I'm connected via network instead of USB and its absolutely rock solid with stunning results.

You are correct. I had forgotten that the version I am using is Beta. It has been very stable

Is there any advantage to having both Parallels and Bootcamp?
Yes.

Bootcamp allows you to fully utilise your graphics card and other hardware but requires a reboot and then you are windows only until you reboot again.

Parallels runs along side OSX and you just switch between the programs in each OS as you need. Seamless with no rebooting.

I would say the majority of people who use both, run parallels most with an occasional boot into Bootcamp when the graphics or hardware is needed.

the only thing I'm running Parallels for right now is Quicken.

the problem I'm having is that if I have parallels running my Mac software does not recognize my CDrom. I.E. I want to play a game and the game says "insert the CDROM into the drive" (it's already in there). As soon as I exit parallels it recognizes the disk and starts right up.

It's annoying to have to stop and start it all the time, I like to keep quicken running in the background.

any suggestions?

Just click on the CD icon on the bottom right of the Parallels windows and chose disconnect.
