We had another simplicity assignment today... So I thought I would share what I came up with. I understand... once again the subject isn't a very great one... but I thought my results were pretty good. Let me have it... honest C&C!

Alex, Thanx for the C&C... I understand what you mean. And I value your opinion... thanx.

I like the exposure and the reflection but its a shame you didn't have a better selection of shoe. it would have been significantly more dramatic if you had either a really old or really new shiny shoe instead of a mediumly grubby shoe off your foot.

I think you need to think REALLY minimalistic for this one, just one simple shaped subject and a non-ditracting background, you could for example unfurl one of the laces and isolate it by DOF maybe snaking along and blurring off into nothingness/the blurred reminder of shoes in the background whatever

Costin,

Thank you for your comments. I appreciate it. I agree with you! I tried and tried to find a set of converse shoes... But I just couldn't. :( unfortunately again... we only had about 20 minutes to complete this assignment. So I just had to make due.

Other than the assignmen criteria... What do you guys think about the shot? Is it a keeper?

Now, I did intentionally (with the use of flash) underexpose the left side of the shot. But are you referring to the whole shot morris? And this wasn't the original, this was a b&w conversion of course.

Thank you for your comment morris.

not for me (gosh, I am really being negative today :) It falls in between. For a 'product shot' it's not nearly well enough arranged and executed. For an 'old shoes' shot - the shoes are not old enough (and the logo suggests 'modern')... In other words - it's a shot of shoes, no 'special' piece of reality is captured and/or isolated.

My personal take of course - if YOU think it's a keeper (for ANY reason) - then it's a keeper :)

Thanks for your honesty! I come to this forum for that. I can show a shot of this to people and they will make me feel good about it and all that... but that's not what I want. I am 17 and still definitely a student of photography. Expirementing around with this sort of stuff and hearing feedback is how I learn. Thank you once again!

I wouldn't have cut off the bottom of the reflection...
