All of the ink on my i960 hav run out at the same time. Im I better off buying a new printer or sink about $85 (13 x 6) into this printer.

I know i can buy a new printer with ink for $100.

If so, whick printers should I look at. I would hope upgrade the quality since the new on will be three years newer.

The i960 was/is a great printer. It's kind of old at this point, but if your budget is $100 I'd probably buy the ink assuming everything is working well on it.

Your best 2nd option would be the Canon Pixma 4300, it's a 4 color printer, with a dedicated pigment black cartridge for text. It has a built-in duplexer with an auto sheet loader and paper cartridge.

If you're willing to spend $150 - $200 I'd suggest buying a refurb R800 from Epson.

I could sell my i960 on eBay with a couple exra ink cartriges for about the price of a ip4300.

Seem like new will be better.

The i960 is a classic. It uses the unchipped cartridges, where all of the newer models use cartridges with chips, that cost another 5 dollars more per cartridge. You can sell it and get a good price for it because this printer has a loyal following.

If you get one of the newer models, you will simply be faced with the same situation, and have to pay nearly 50% more for the newer style cartridge. I would wait until the printer dies....

I have the i960 and the ip6600d. Output is nearly identical but the i960 is much more economical to operate. Especially if you use 3rd party inks.

The ink made such a mess and the quality sucked. I currently pay about $12 per tank. What does a good quality 3rd party ink tak cost and where do i get it?

Ive used third party ink in my Canon for over a year and you cant tell the difference from the originals. But it is good ink

I dont think you'll get much more in the way of quality but youre cartridges will cost you more if you upgrade.

Shame youre not in the UK as i'm supplying

It looks like Canon ink for the i960 goes for about $11 online and $13 for the ip4300. There are 6 tanks on the i960 and 5 on the ip4300. It balances itself out then.

Why would I not be better off with a new ip4300 over my i960?

I have a I960, it is a great printer, worth keeping.

I have been using ink from http://www.swiftink.com for many years.
They pride themselves on quality ink and quality well built cartridges.
In my opinion the ink has better color than Canon OEM.

Right now there is a sale until February 17th. 30% discount
using code ANAND30.

This is a great price for a quality cartridge
I would recommend you try a sample order, like myself, you will
never go back to other brand cartridges.

Orders over $50 have free shipping. It doesn't get any better
than that.

How many prints would you estimate you've done on your 960?

Looks like i had a posting removed

maybe next time i'll just say i know where to buy stuff as really thats all i put i didnt advertise

I had an i950 and used it until it died. I now have a ip6600D. Both are fabulous printers, quality right out of the box with no problems, adjustments, etc. If your 960 works OK, why not keep it and use it if it's doing the job. Regardless of what you have, you will be buying ink. In a few months something new will be out that will suit your fancy.

Do your bit to save the world for our children!
Buy the cartridges.

I have seen the quality of some of the (lower priced) new Canon printers and I don't think the prints are quite as good as the produced by the printer you already have. So unless you are going for one of the more expensive models or are having any problems with your got I would keep it and just replace the inks.
