XTi "green box" challenge

Think the "Green Box" Challenge is sound, but no PPing IMHO, as the original idea was I presume to see how the camera controls the settings, PPing defeats the object, just my 2pennorth.

The other modes you get to choose the settings in some way, so that would not be "Green Box".

Looking forward to this one, bring on the "Auto".

It was covered with the kit lens, which I don't own. I like the green box idea and think we should also do an p,av,tv,m with any lens when this contest is over...

I think the photos should not be processed......make it a challenge to take the best photo you can using the auto mode. I think this will be of help to new users like myself to learn how to use this camera!
Would there be a 3 photo limit???

Since this forum is for the Canon 300/350 and 400 why not include
all of those camera since they all (never used yet on my XT) have a
green box?
Now that should be considered. We do have a "kit lens" challenge in here and that's probably more suited for the Canon SLR lens forum. I initially thought that since there's been so many discussions and claims regarding the actual capabilities of full auto on the XTi specifically, I thought just the XTi. But maybe we should just make it a "green box" challenge?
By the way I really did laugh out loud when I saw the first "dark"
entry.
Especially since it's from a Canon Powershot G2.

What I meant is there's already just a plain Digital Rebel challenge in this forum. It's seperate from the kit lens challlenge and I think that unqualified challenge already well covers what you're proposing.

Actually I am surprised, I just stepped out the front door and shot some ice melting from my gutters and it did better than I thought it would. First time I ever used green box.

..I don't think it needs to be a "challenge". It can be the posting of pictures taken in Auto-Green mode, period. No PP.

I just used green box on one too. Interestingly enough, while the histogram may be shifted a tad to the left, I find the exposure was absolutely true to life as it's a grey and attempting to snow here.

I totally agree. I tend to refrain from "challenges" because I don't want to hog all the winnings (yes that was sarcasm).

I like the exhibition idea much better.

Im looking at my past photos from the last few weeks ( just got my xti) and I'm trying to tell if I used auto. Whats the best way to tell?

Let's have an XTi "green box" auto mode challenge. Any lens and
flash allowed, only requirement is that the photo's been taken with
the XTi in "green box" full auto dial setting.

Whatya think?
There's several "votes" now for no PP. If we do no PP, should we have?:

1. Originals only submitted (I really don't think this will work well)

2. resized photos submitted, but access to originals required?

3. resized photos submitted, and no access to originals required?

If #3: EXIF required in resized submissions?

I think #3 has temptations and no way to tell whether PP's been done or not. It's certainly reasonable for people to want to do some level of sharpening for the web, etc. All other challenges don't have rules about no PP. Even the kit lens challenge doesn't require that we see what comes from the kit lens unPPd.

So, bottom line, if we have a no PP rule, do we: trust with verify, or just trust.

I disagree. I think challenge brings out the best effort. An exhibition will have people just submitting anything. A challenge is just that: a challenge.
