Working with a D200 as a Prof. Photographer (pictures)

So why shooting jpg and not raw when one does post anyways?

...RAW workflow even on a fast machine takes longer, needs more harddrive space etc. I only use RAW if I am not sure about the white balance or if the costumer works with raw.

I suppose that when one has the WB and exposure nailed down fairly well in a particular shoot and composition and that would require little PP, then JPEGs would be ideal for sake of workflow and time. When the natural light works in your favor, conditions are ideal for such a JPEG orgy. But when a composition is more difficult, with uneven and/or harsh and unfavorable lighting, and obtaining proper WB exposure is difficult, RAW would be ideal.

Working within Aperture, at least that's what I'm finding to be ideal for me.

Thanks again vor all the help and feedback.

Any further suggestions etc. just fire at me. I promise not to feel offended ;)

Hi Guys,

I thought many times about upgrading my D200 to a D2Xs but haven't
found any major improvements that would give me better results for
portrait, fashion, lifestyle and event photography. Still waiting
for a full format.
nice site
Sounds like you might enjoy the Fuji S5
Fuji has away with .jpgs and the extra DR could come in handy at times
A D2X and an S5 would be a very versatile kit in my mind.

Never worked with Fuji but will certainly take a closer look. Thanks!

I guess it depends on your connection, but here it is very fast and responsive. If you zoom the pics you get a high resolution so a short wait should be acceptable imho.

Thanks for your feedback!

I tried it from home as well as two places at work with two different ISPs.

At home I use Optimum Online from Cablevision which is well known to be the FASTEST ISP for home users of ANY cable provider in the US.

At work, how about a 600Mb/s Fiber connection to Broadwing on one campus? The other is a 250Mb/s fiber connection to AT&T. So it is not that. Our backbone is all 1Gb/s to the desktop and above on the backbone.

The observation is NOT that it is slow on it's own, it is that everything you do has a wait buffer. My suggestion is to PRELOAD as much as possible.

I meant nothing bad from my statement. I do think your work is outstanding... I just didn;t like the navigation and believe it can stand another round of tightening is all.

Otherwise it is fine and if you like it, who the heck cares what I think right? :-))

Cheers

Thanks for all the testing Manny. I will work on some preloading and try to get an even faster navigation. Still learning flash but will find a solution.

Really annoying web site.

Love your site, especially the shutter sound. Keep up the great work. Any tips on how to set up the custom-optimize photo part?

I agree, it's a great camera. Your pictures are just astounding. It takes knowledge to make great pictures...a camera is just a small part in that proces. The best camera in the world does not guarantee you'll make also the best pictures!!!

It is not on par with the 17-55. It is still better in IQ and build quality. But i must admit that the range of 18-200 is really a nice range and especially for beginners a very good lens.
