First portraits [2 img]

I like the second one very much, although there are obvious technical weakenesses. Here the model is completely relaxed and the wind causes the hair to add life to the picture. A really good one.

The first is much more sharp, but model not so at ease. The road is not a nice background in this case. A lower camera elevation would likely improve the composition.

I'll pass on the C&C, don't have the pedigree, but you might find the following usefull...

Head and shoulder portraits are usually taken to bring attention to the subjects face. This is done through the use of light and shadows which also adds the dimensionality we all typically like to see in a portrait.

Check out the following link for lighting tips that apply for studio and natural light photos:

I've really learned a lot from this site and would recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their portraits when starting out...
This is the first time I've done any portraits like this. I was
hoping I could get some pointers and suggestions and opinions.
