I noticed Canon has released Zoom Browser EX 5.8 updater. I wish they would allow full downloads of their software for the times when we don't have the CD around.

Never buy version 1.0 of anything.

Does it just add coverage for the most recent cameras or are there any new features or improvements?

--Thanks I did, but can't see any difference and think it is for the new cameras, perhaps coming out for Easter????????? Maybe a Pro2?

I'm still waiting for Canon to improve on the red eye removal feature in Zoombrowser. The features and ability to remove red eye is still limited.

You could give Faststone Image Viewer (www.faststone.org) a try. It has exelent red eye removal. It can also be installed as portable aplication.

There is a way (or at least there was in previous versions, not sure now as I've not tried) to install the update without having to install the original as the update is the full thing. So basically you can install the "update" even if you haven't got Zoombrowser already on your PC.

From what I can remember it just involved adding a line into the Registry as that's all the updater looks for when installing.

And with a quick Google search the line to add is:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\CANON\ZOOMBROWSER EX

Won't bother for the time being then - but good to know it's there for when/if the time comes!

Thanks! I just replaced a 5 year old Kodak w/ a new sd1000 and found zoombrowser really sucked at red-eye removal... but I didn't want to re-install the Kodak software just for red-eye removal (which wasn't that great anyway). Maybe this will be a better option. I will say that when I've remembered to use the sd-1000's on-camera red eye removal, I have been very impressed. I just don't always remember it's there and I've been too lazy to try transferring the pictures back to the camera to fix the red eye.

I haven't really seen any (of course, I don't use ZB all tha much...), but I believe there is a 'waht's new' link at the download page. One change is that they have written it to recognize Vista, for what that's wqorth. I used 5.7 with Vista for several months with no issues. I only installed 5.8 last week.
