External flash recommendation

Hola Jason,

don´t worry looking for fancy and expensive flash units, go to ebay, look for the Vivitar 285HV - which gives me 6-7 volts - and that´s it, I just got mine after realizing 283 gives me 270volts, put it on my new K110D and tested it. I use my camera manually, set it to 1/90 or 1/125 speed, ISO 200 or 400 and then get the F-stop from the flash calculator, it is easy, you can even get the manual from here.

What is that in the picture!? Is it a bug with a unihorn???
I assume the 100D is Pttl? I have a Promaster 5750 DX that I use on
my DS and I have been very well pleased. It fully swivels, is
powerful, and has been very useful for me. One feature I really
like is the small "Fill Flash" on the front that I often use for
Macro work. If you turn the main head up and just use the small
front flash for Macro, it won't blow out the highlights, yet it
will provide nice even light. I bought mine at Wolfe's(not a Ritz
affiliate) in Kansas by phone and talked with Tom Tweddell, a nice
guy that was very helpful. When my first unit went bad, they were
very quick to get me a new one, with no hassle whatsoever.
1-800-359-6533 or Google them for more info. Here's one where I
used the little "fill flash".

The Vivitar 285HV is usually pretty safe, but older 285s can have
up to 350 volts! That's fry your camrea big time!

How can you tell a 285HV from a plain 285?

I'm also trying to find a cheap flash for my K100d on e-bay but it's difficult to distinguish those 2 models if there is no explicit description of the exact model

Soligor has a new version out now of their DG 420 Z flash with support for P-TTL.

It seems to be the least expensive P-TTL flash on the market. It doesn't do wireless flash nor high speed sync, but I believe you have no use of those features. It does both tilt and swivel.

Sigma EF500DG Super is another alternative, but it is more expensive.

Where on earth do I find this Soligor DG 420 flash? Any online websites selling it?

I use a pair of Nikon SB-24s with a cheapo radio trigger on one and a tripod-mountable optical slave on the other. The flashes have manual power adjustment (1/1 down to 1/16 in full-stop increments) and are pretty powerful (can't remember the guide number). By 1/4 power they recharge almost instantly too.

Best thing is the price - each one cost me £40 of eBay.

If you're interested in cheap off-camera flash, I seriously recommend Strobist:

An absolute ton of information on there.

Agree about the used Pentax, I bought one for about US$20, works perfectly.
