These guys are usually squawking it up down by the lake or browsing the pasture. But, on a perceived no photo opportunity rainy day here they appear under the oaks not far from my front door. So in house slippers I start stalking trying to eliminate the wire fence from my frame. Got out all but one wire and then they got nervous. The FZ50 was wet and my slippers were muddy, but I think I got a keeper!

I never thought I'd say that Canada Geese were smart, we think as them of a pest, impored from North America a sort of House Sparrow only larger and in the opposite direction. Really nice picture. Did you know that if you look at flocks of Canads you will often find them all feeding except one guy who stands lookout. Presumably someone takes over and lets him have a feed.

LOL Oak Eagles??:-)) I'd say you have a keeper too - especially when you had to go to so much trouble to get it. Looks like "King of the Castle" to me. Do they also squawk when you're trying to sneak up on other birds in the pond which effectively has them all flying by the time you get there?!

Hi, Eagles_1. Glad you liked the house hunting geese. This time of year they occasionally drop onto a branch for a visit and scoping of the area. They might go to ground to graze after a while.

I thought this goose was a little crazy. The goose on the barn and the sunny barn were taken two days apart. Some heavy pp followed...

Hope you like it, Emma

Gargantua Grooster! Good job on stokin him up with "hormones" and giving him a beautiful background! I'd guess he's lookin to see if his goosette might be flying south with another gander.

Perhaps an adjustment of scale is in order. 200 lb. Canada Geese are rare.

Sheeesh ... I come back to make a short comment and post another photo but get side tracked wandering through you fine folk's galleries. Lots of nice pictures. I was taken back to my kid days seeing the shot of the blue barred with white homing pigeon. I was in a racing pigeon club for a few years. My neighbors are horse fanciers and they love to see those fine looking small sized horses. They're beauties.

Yeah, I guess it's a little deceptive to get you to look at my Canada geese photo that way ... but least I got a couple smiles along with the corrections.

When I first spotted the geese the sentinel looked good up on the stump, but by the time I crept closer to eliminate the fence they started moving. A few deer walked along the fence between us, but the geese were keeping their eyes on the guy in muddy slippers.

I've heard some folks keep geese as "watch dogs" because of their alertness and their loud response to intruders.
