My wife's SD800IS just arrived today. Here are my initial impressions. I come from a 20D and A510 background.

This baby is FAST. It focus and is ready for the next shot much faster than I expected.
The flash recycles much faster than I expected based on reviews. (large room).

All else (except IQ - not tested) is about what I expected based on reviews -- well except for the small size.

I'll do some IQ checks when I have a little time to do so. Oh, the 28mm FL is great. As is the IS.

(don't mean to beat a dead horse here), but when you have the chance, i'd be curious to hear if you have any problems with dust blobs/halos taking flash photos indoors at wide angle. there seems to be some variability in terms of whether people see this or not and its frequency.

i still have yet to confirm if my friend's experience of a 25%+ occurence is normal or just bad luck, or a two defective cameras (this doesn't seem likely).

hi I just got mine this afternoon and still waiting for the battery to be charged. can't wait

Out of about 15 WA indoor flashes I haven't seen the blobs/halos you mentioned. I'll look in more detail tomorrow and let you know. Flash coverage/performance is way better than I expected based on my A510.

There are no blobs with mine. I have to say though that IQ isn't as good as my ixus 40.

...hopefully you don't have any. like i said, i don't know if my friend had bad luck or not. other than that, it looks like a great camera.

FWIW, i just bought an SD700 and love it, but i miss the wide angle, especially considering my other digicam has 24mm wide end (Nikon 8400).

Her SD800IS does not have the problem you mention. So far, so good. Still impressed with it.

great. i'm happy for you.

i'll have to urge my friend(s) to reconsider and find a dealer which he can return with ease without any restocking fee.
