I wish I had an E-400 with a good and compact tele this week. Since I don't, I've been using my E-300 with the standard zoom instead, the ZD14-54/2.8-3.5 together with the EC-14 teleconverter. The motiv is a sunset picture of the Mont Blanc.

Here are two examples:
From last year with the kit-lens:

This year with the standard zoom 14-54mm & EC-14:

OT Pardon my ignorance (born in the heart of the caribbean sea) is that a building at the botton of the picture?

Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now. Bob Dylan

The building could be something for the Italian alpinism, for use in the summer maybe. I agree it looks a bit isolated in the winter time.

Thanks, for your kind comment.

While skiing, I'm rather bringing a smaller camera in my pocket, like currently an antique Digital Ixus S230. However, some days bringing a DSLR, like my E-300 here, gives more rewarding pictures, but it's heavier to carry in a separate backpack. I think the E-400 type of cameras with the matching compact lenses, definitely is a winner. The image quality and control is so much better.

I had a problem with first using the teleconverter together with the zoom lens, since I did make the mistake of touching the lens release button while mounting these on the camera. The result were that the EXIF data were missing the aperture exposure info. So listen for the "click" sound when the lens snaps into the mount, and leaving the camera shut-off, is recommended to remember.
Not sure which I prefer. Great colour in the first, more
interesting light in the second. You should be pleased.

from http://www.olympusamerica.com :

"When you need more telephoto in a smaller package, the EC14 1.4x Teleconverter is an ideal choice. With only 1 stop of light loss the 1.4x converter still provides a fast super telephoto for sports and nature photography. Turn your Zuiko Digital 300mm f2.8 into a 420mm f4.0 (35mm equivalent 840mm f4.0). The EC14 is compatible with the Zuiko Digital 14-54mm f2.8/3.5, 50-200mm f2.8/3.5, 300mm f2.8, and 50mm f2.0 (f2.8 and up) lenses and is fully multi-coated to retain the high lens performance you expect. An inexpensive solution for professional-level results."

I haven't tried it on the 14-54mm, but I use it extensively on the 50mm f2 lens, I loose 1 f stop...

The 50mm wide open is now at f2.8
