There is the link. In case it doesn't work it is on the front page. Also there is a blip about Kodak releasing plug-ins for PS CS2.

I use ACR, but I would love to see what image processing, and RAW development changes Olympus has made. . . maybe it can give ACR a run for its money in my house?

Not sure what has changed other than the interface though. Check it out.

From the sound of it looks like studio is going to be merged with master.

Hopefully this means faster raw development and some new features.

Camera control will probably be one of the pro add ons.

. . .see it get faster in operation, and I would also love for it not to sacrifice DR for contrast and less noise for oversaturation.

Or will everyone other than new camera buyers have to pay for it?

well I was issued with 1.4.2 and of course it doesn't 'update' to 2.0 automatically does it............

oh well we will just have to see what the process is in due course.

for the 400 I use it for RAW conversions as ACR is poor, despite the obvious control advantages, although I will get round to installing CS3 shortly and see if that's sorted.

thanks for posting the link

you peaked.

What new software???

I went to Olympus' website and they have no upgrade from 1.4.2 nor do they have a link to order a full version.

If Olympus is going to announce a new version of Master, I'd sure like it if they'd wait until their website has it available.

:-(

. . .supply a profile for the E400 AFAIK. When they do I hope to see them take advantage of the Kodak sensor the way they have for the E500. The results are*in every aspect* literally light years better than Studio or Master.

I grabbed some E400 RAWs off the net, and ACR did not do very well at all with them . . it seems it is completely uncalibrated.

I would like to see them work it over that way again.

I won't be able to use it anyway.

I wish companies like Olympus would make it's software platform independent and wished Olympus would make updating firmware possible from the memory card.

I have still a small partition with windowsXP and Viewer just to be able to update firmware, I wish this wouldn't be necessary.

In the release it says that version 2

"The new OLYMPUS Master 2.0 software will ship with all Olympus digital cameras launch from 2007 onwards and is compatible with both Windows (up to Vista) and Mac (up to OS X Tiger) operating systems and is available in 29 languages."

It dose not specifically say that 1.42 would be upgradeable, but who knows. I did try updating my Olympus Master after seeing this, but only updates available were langue.

We will have to see. Though will many of us waiting for those new cameras, we will be getting it "free" anyway.

Well hopefully we'll be able to upgrade existing software.

It actually bothers me that Olympus ships master with DSLRs now - they have a decent package with studio - why make us pay extra to get the functionality that should have been there in the first place?

Zach,
Thanks for the link.

As, I'm sure, most of us are aware, the Olympus software has been written by cretins who do not have any awareness of the needs of the photographic community in general.

I keep Viewer on my back-up drive only in the unlikely event that Olympus announces an update for the E-1. I had Camedia Master, often referred to as "Comedia" Master for use with my E-10s although updates were not available on-line. I think I may still have that CD somewhere.

During the short period that I owned my E-300, I kept Master around for updates but it's been relegated to oblivion.

I used the trial of Studio and found it to be typical of most of the Olympus software available. Terribly slow with marginal results. After the trial expired, my patience for Olympus software expired.
For now, all I have installed and readily available is Viewer.

As I recall, Olympus has teamed up with IBM software writers so there still remains little hope.

I, for one, would LIKE to see a free upgrade, but I dont expect it.

A good deal on the price for Those with the old "Master" wouldnt be a bad thing.

The news release said update, not upgrade. I realize this is just an exercise in semantics but I would think that an update would be free since Oly Master 1.42 has a supposed auto update feature. I would expect to have to pay for an upgrade however. Curious to see how this pans out.

I wish these trees weren't here, I want to see the forest!

I agree, full "studio" features should be shipped with Pro cameras, not as a $100 add on. This issue annoys me as much as having xD-card cameras.

I have little use for "viewer" software as there are much better 3rd party ones such as Faststone Image Viewer or ACDSee.

software programs - for each brand - should no longer be charged for. Hell - we purchased the camera (and in many cases, cameras), and thus we should be allowed to have the software for free. Fuji did it with their HyperUtility Converter (which used to be over $100 USD to buy it separately). Now it's being included with cameras such as the S9100, etc.). So I'm hoping we don't have to pay for any upgrades to it all. Just my 2 cents worth....

Have a great day!

Pardon the ignorance but would a new version of master be able to process E-1 files? I thougt Studio and Viewer were the only programs that did that. The reason I ask is that STudio does a great job with the E-1 but it is soooooo slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
