Not exactly a picture perfect afternoon, but I was happy with these even though we didn't have any blue sky.

The bird was completely back lit so in actuallity...it's a good thing it was cloudy!

I think these were all shot at ISO 800...D2Xs, 500 AFSII and TC14EII.

This beautiful white male didn't move anything but his head.....so there isn't a whole lot of difference in the shots, other than a little light intensity change and head posture differences.

Beautiful birds and fine photos...

Good thing the skys were not blue and sunny, would have been tough to nail the white feather detail the way you did...

Thanks for sharing,

Bob

Hi Jim:
Very Nice shots.
Did you do anything different with any of the shots? Is wb the same?
The 3rd shot tends toward blue on my screen and the last toward brown.
Is this my screen or does anybody else get that too?

Cheers and keep the great bird shots coming. You are a committed ornithologist.

Cheers

Nice work Jim! Your an inspiration to all of us. Are you using your D2HS anymore or did you retire it? Has you work with the D2XS replaced your use of the D2HS?
Best regards,
Gene Rau

IMHO, #2 is the most interesting one. Not that the others are not spectacular as well :) .

Congratulations, these are excellent shots of an extremely difficultly lit subject.

I especially like the contact you have made with the owl and how that is conveyed in the image.

Well done.

My God! It's full of elephants.

was perfect for a bright white bird like this. It really helped nail the feathers exposure without blowing it out. Very detailed in the white. Thats always the problem though when out during the day. Cloudy overcast gives great exposures but a dull sky. Great blue sky means sun and then positioning and time of day mean everything. Well captured as usual and thats for posting.
