Question about selling work

Hello everyone,

I have been trying, pretty unsucessfully to market my work for about a year now.

I have created a website, Which is going through a rework at the moment, Gone to "craft shows"

Even had a local collectible/coffee shop hang my photos and carry a line of cards/ other items

with my photos on them. (The coffee shop is fairly new and traffic is very low so far)

The results have been mixed. Financially, I just don't sell. Ego wise, well in the beginning

having lots of people look at my photos, and tell me how much they love them... but it soon became a
mental voice inside screaming, Well then why don't you buy something?

Part of the problem I can identify easily, The Shows I've signed up for, haven't been great venues,

One was a computer show, which turned out to be a bust. When people paid $5 to get into a computer show

and saw only one computer vender and one photographer, they didn't tend to buy much. I actually was

amazed that people were as nice as they were that day) Another was a weekly art show on a local strip

Which turned out not to be advertised at all, and I spent days with no one even walking by.

So I'm asking if anyone has any advice. Here is a link to examples of my work.

I know flash isn't the best mediam to display photos, but I'm not really asking
for a qritique of the work,
I'm asking for any suggestions on how to market them more sucessfully

It might help if I tell you what I've been trying to sell the photos for so here is a price list

8X10 - Matted - Wrapped sealed in a plastic bag $ $25.00
8X10 - Matted - Framed - $50.00
Magnetic 4X6 $ 2.95
Greeting Card $ 3.95

Life is a series of images - capture them!

I have photos available for sale on my Smugmug site, but at last count I hadn't had a single sale. Almost all of my sales, as well as paying jobs, have come from people seeing my work. I work in a hair salon, and depending on the day, a lot of people come through. I've had many people see pictures that I have on display and then ask if I'd do jobs for them or if they could buy them. I think you've got to do all you can to make your work visible to as many people as possible. Then hope for the best. There's no way I could quit my day job and make a living in my small town doing photography, but so far I've made enough to cover the cost of my camera, 4 lenses, and an SB-600. I'm ok with that. Good luck to you.
