Any other pro photographers here use Pentax?

What is your criteria for "pro"? Published, contest winner, full time putting the bread on the table, image quality or what?

As per my reply to your last post, we are full time, working photogs using the Pentax system exclusively for digital capture. We use Bronica 645 system for any film work.
What is the object of your post?

I'm a working photographer making a living using Pentax DSLRs.

I was using Pentax 35mm and medium format cameras in the 90s and just after the turn of this last century.

I switched to Nikon and Fuji DSLRs in late 2001/early 2002 (because there were no Pentax DSLRs at that time.)

I switched to Canon DSLRs in early 2006 (which I now regret).

I made the switch to Pentax DSLRs during late last year and early this year.

Well, I make a living using Pentax for real estate photography. Not as glamorous as fashion or glamour photography but it's a living. I use my istDS for real estate and I'll be using my K10D for wedding and portrait photography (still trying to build up that part of my business).

To ask broad questions that he believes will get many replies in order to get as much traffic to his profile, and consequentially his new website.

I guess the purpose of you replying is to get attention of people to your cow pic and also the link in your signature then...

As in the thread on Benjamin got banned, some said there are many other pro photographers got banned and left the forum as well, so I was wondering who are the pro photographers here in Pentax SLR forum :)

You have your right to believe what you believe in...and reply again with your cow and link in your signature ;)

the world of Pentax users!

You know this place is becoming a real pain in the A* . The guy ask a simple question and just because he has a forum of his own you guys have to jump all over him. Do we now have to have our questions screened to make sure they are worthy?

What ever happened to the nice friendly place this used to be?

I consider my Pentax gear as a business expense, it's one of my tools, like the computer helps me communicate with family friends or custommers, though I can't really quanitify any sort of money that I've made from it.

Photography for me is a way of helping to spread worth of mouth about my work (not photography) so I classify it under advertising, plus I've used it to make a small poster or two. As I get better and more set up, it will become more of a business tool.

I am curious. Why do you regret the move to C?
Ergonomics -- hated Canon ergonomics. Not only did the 1DmkII and 20D just not "feel right" in my hands, but I had to think more about what I was doing when changing camera settings ... unlike with Nikon, Fuji, and Pentax cameras where the controls are generally where I want them to be in terms of function. When covering weddings, if you have to stop and think and look at your camera to adjust a setting then you probably just missed a once-in-a-lifetime moment for the bride and groom. Ergonomics are absolutely a "personal" issue. I like Pentax ergonomics the best, but others love Canon.

Weight -- Canon DSLRs (particularly the 1DmkII) are heavy ... too heavy for my taste. Try lifting a 1DmkII, flash bracket, flash, flash diffuser, and external battery for the flash for 5-10 hours without a break. You quickly learn to pick the lightest gear that does the job.

Flash -- One of the reasons I moved from Nikon to Canon last year was the easy wireless TTL system. Unfortuantely, while Canon's E-TTL wireless system is easier to setup than Nikon's Creative Lighting System with the SB800s the Canon system doesn't do all that well in bright sunlight (like at an outdoor wedding). I got better results using cheap optical and radio slaves and manual flashes.

ISO -- Yes, Canon DSLRs produce clean images, but they do so by "smearing" certain textures. The detail would always be there in things like the beadwork on a wedding dress but the wedding dress fabric or skin textures would look "processed." In some cases the "smearing" was almost as bad as what I see in small-sensor digital cameras like the FZ50 I use for family and vacation use. NOT that big of a deal at all in the final prints, but annoying to see in images from expensive DSLRs.

Price/performance ratio -- Sure, great performance and lens selection ... but overpriced for the bottom line. I am a working photographer. I have to balance expenses with income and still have enough to pay both business related bills and my household/family bills.

Bottom line, I did some great work with the Canon gear last year, but I wish I had just gone from Nikon and Fuji directly to Pentax.
