Flash power supply, is it new?

It's $150+15s/h on ebay right now shipped from Japan.

I'm thinking though, how much faster will it recharge, this device uses the same batteries plus 2.

This is another rebadged Minolta product.
This used to be called the EP-2.

I've been watching the item, as has been stated Ebay direct from Japan $148,
BH Sony FA-EB1AM External Battery Pack for HVL-F56AM Flash

Our Price: $ 209.95

I'm looking for the same info. I shoot 6-8 hrs at the racetrack at night, drag racing. Have the Sony 56 flash and anticipate the need for additional power.

But it doesn't seem to be available in USA yet.

This is just a Minolta product.I have the ep_1 that uses 6 c batteries.
It does re-charge faster than without and gives you more flashes.

The one you posted is the Minolta Ep-2(just sony named it something else) which uses 6 AA batteries. If you use re-chargeables (2700mah) then it will be even faster rechargeing the flash. I think it was like 4-5 sec recharge instead of the 7 sec recharge. Also will give you something like 600-700 flashes.

could you not plug it into the camera for power as well as the flash?
i am sure it is the same connection.

if not just more power ,you could keep the batteries in your pocket in cold weather to the camera does not loose power?

Jeff, how heavy is the EP-1?

2 or 3 pounds. Doesnt screw on the tripod threads like the ep-1 you got a belt clip or can wear around neck.
