I realy like the second picture, it looks like a painting somehow.
Or a shot out of a movie.

I agree...something cinematic about that spot. As a matter of fact, the Delacorte Theatre is right next to it. That's where they have free Shakespeare in the park every summer.

I walk across this part of the park a couple of times a week and never tire of how it looks. It doesn't hurt that there's usually tons of dogs out for their morning walk and I'm a dog lover.

Thanks for lookin',
Charles

I like that berry, too.

I like the berry also... but I really like the second shot a lot. It has a certain look and feel that is very appealing to me. That is in NY?? I (and I don't know why either) have never been to New York City yet!!! I had no idea it was so lovely in the park.

Thanks for sharing!

'All the world's a stage'

an absolutely beautiful place to be any time of year.

they've done a lot of work over the past 10 years or so to make it that way and there's a lot of private money that is donated to help with the upkeep.

it's a real gem of a park and I often find it hard to believe that someone had the foresite to carve this amount of land out of the city as it was becoming what it is today.

without it, the city would be a much less enjoyable place to live.

i've got a gallery in progress that's devoted to it at pbase:
http://www.pbase.com/charleschessler/centralpark
and most of the animals in my "critters" gallery are from the park, too.

if you get a chance to check it out let me know what you think.

thanks for lookin'

Which I am more impressed by.... your photography or the beauty of New York!

What I think is that I should get my @## to NY city before I'm too old to enjoy it!!!

Your photos would make a great advertising medium...."Come to New York City... it's more than you imagined!"

Charles always like your City shots, the castle shot is great. I like the "berry" though I think it's really a wild rose "hip" i.e. seed pod.
Not that it changes an interesting shot.
Keep your New York shots coming. It's a city I regret not having visited yet.

I had some when I was in New York and I keep thinking about it.

What I like about these photos is you show good stuff that the two different cameras do. The H5 likes to do macros and churn up the bokeh, and the R1 likes to sit back and look at everything. I looked 4 days ago but I didn't comment because I had to think first.

While I hate to use the word "should", I must say that you "should" get to NYC at some point in your life.

Great museums, diverse people, cultures and food, fascinating architecture, theatre, ballet, opera, interesting neighborhoods...one could go on and on and on.

People have come to and through this city for generations making it the fascinating melting pot that it is.

A little bit of my family's story (and it's quite typical):

My maternal grandfather came here from Poland about a year before WW1 broke out. His plan was to work and make enough to send for his wife and son. When the war broke out that couldn't happen so the wife and son were left to survive, pretty much, on the streets, scavanging for what they could until the war was over.

During that time my grandfather lived in an area known as the lower east side. He would walk six miles each way to work to save the 5 cent fare so he could save more quickly to send for his family. He shared a room and what were called "hotbeds" during this time. They were called hotbeds because three men would share a bed sleeping in 8 hour shifts and working the other 16 hours - so the bed never got cold.

My grandmother and uncle survived the war - barely - and my grandfather sent for them as soon as he could. He moved them up to Bridgeport Conn. and opened an old-fashioned Deli. He did pretty well and during the depression he fed half the neighborhood - black, white, brown, yellow, green and pink - didn't matter how they looked, only that they were in need and hard working like he was - and never asked for a dime.

This city is filled with these stories...it's what gives it such a delicious flavor.

You hit the nail on the head about the 2 cameras - I really wish both of them for you again. And I showed your response to my wife who now really believes me about why both are "necessary". So, thanks for that :-)

Ya know, my mom makes (well, not for some time, now) the best cheesecake of all time and the recipe is called "New York Cheesecake". You've got me waxing a bit nostalgic. Getting old really sucks.

cheers, bud.

To post, you need a photo hosting site. Then you copy the URL of your photo and paste it into your message here on the STF.

I use pbase. It's $23 for the year and they automatically resize your photos for the web when you upload, if you want.

I've got a gallery of Central Park stuff there. Check it out:

You can leave a message there. Let me know what you think.

Charles,

Great story! Sounds as though you come from some good people, and my guess is you have more stories you could tell. There's no good reason I haven't made it to the city.... I grew up in Mass; later lived in RI for awhile and ultimately settled in Virginia. Have driven back and forth to New England once or twice a year since.... just keep on driving past New York, never stopping! Time for a change! lol

Thanks for sharing that story! Maybe you should write and illustrate a book.....

I like the illustrated book idea....maybe some day if I can dig up some old photos to give an authentic feel to some of the history.

Thanks for taking the time Kathy.
