Well, last weekend I decided I needed to go and see some mor eof what California has to offer and whilst eating breakfast decided to go see what Big Bear mountain is all about. What I found most staggering was that within 2.5 hours of leaving the warm sunshine of LA, I was in the beautiful snowy landscape of Big Bear. Unfortunately the sunset shots are a little too dark as the sun poked behind the mountains. But once again, real pleased with the images I can back with.
The first image is 3 stitched together.
Take a look and advice and tips are always welcome.

I am feeling a trip to Hawaii coming on soon. 8-)
Cheers,

These are all so beautiful I can't choose a favorite. I was so involved in looking at your website I hadn't got back to comment here on the Bear Mountain ones. You have some gorgeous shots!!

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Thanks for taking a look at my site. I bought the Alpha back in November especially for the Joshua Tree break. It was my first DSLR and I have really found I have a new passion and hobby. I moved out here in LA in September and it is like I am on a perminant holiday. Every weekend I try and take myself to see some of the diverse and amazing landscapes southern califorina has to offer, it is a very photogenic place.

I make video games for a living and am responsible for characters and character animation. This used to be my main hobby and what I spent all my working and spare time doing. But a year ago I really started craving to find myself a new hobby to break the work and play cycle. I just could not work out what to do. I have now certainly found it! Digital photography is so accessible and instantly rewarding. It has been many years since being at art school and developing in a dark room. Times have certainly changed.

For all the negative feedback the Alpha sometimes gets, I have to say, I personally find it faultless and it can really deliver awesome images.

Living for the weekends, but not to party any more, I just want to take pictures. 8-)
Thanks again.

Thank you very much.

Well I tried all sorts of different settings and all my different lenses that I seem to be collecting rapidly. It's all so very addictive.

But most of these shots were using MultiSegment Metering. The reason for this is that there were some amazing colours being displayed in the sky and on the clouds, but when I tried metering on the near silhouetted house and rocks, it would cause the sky to blow out and loose the colour and tones. Unfortunately the result look a little under exposed, but the colours come through. I am sure there is a trick to getting this right, but I am still very much learning.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Leon

Great!

All these moaners, who do not care to learn their A100, should visit your site. :-)

And plz don't forget to share your Hawaii impressions with us ;-)

Hi Leon,

Ah yes the wonders of Southern California. In a single day you could play in the mountains, hike the deserts, and bask on the back in the sun. We may run into each other someday. I'm going to Joshua Tree this weekend, and next month I'll be in the San Bernardino mountains for a weekend backpacking trip...

Heh... It should be "bask on the beach" not "bask on the back"

Nice shot! I also got a great shot of Barker dam a couple years ago that got picked for Konica-Minolta's photo of the week.

Thanks for the comments. This certainly a lovely part of the world. Hope you have fun at joshua tree, it is an awesome place. I hope to go back in the spring, I hear there is a week that the desert blooms! I wanna capture that.

In the meantime, I'll be basking on my back! 8-)

My New 3600HS Flash has just arrived. Oh! The exciting world of Photography!

Looks forward to checking your pics out!

Yes it is staggering and the whole of Cali if so diverse. How can I ever return to England??

Thanks for your comments.

Wonderful photos. I'm especially fond of the perspective and elements of the last one. The exif data wasn’t in this photo. What lens were you using?

Jeff

Yes sorry about that, the converter program I use to create the gallerys strips the exif data from the images I think.

Well the lenses I have in my collection now are the following:
Sony Kit 18-70
Minolta 75-300
Minolta 24 f2.8
Minolta 35-80
Sigma 35-80
and picking up a Minolta 50mm f1.7 tomorrow 8-)

Funnily enough the lens I used for the last shot was in fact the Sony Kit!
I like that lens a lot!

Thanks for the comments
