FZ50+TC17 ED, day 2

Impressive, I Thought I saw some halos in the first image, figured
you did a guassian blur on the background, though it progressively
got blurry, which people typically don't do in PP, so I thought you
got fancy ;) The selection masks for the NR and for the sharpening
on the bird is probably what threw me off. But impressive that
you got such nice subject isolation, you worked with the scene very
well.
Thanks Joesiv, I have seen many people using gaussian blur with excellent effect, but my experience with it has been less than exciting, I never could manage the halo well in the transition zone, so I have given up trying... Photoshop has got a brilliant selection tool in CS3, its called Quick Selection Tool, it is the best selection tool I have seen so far
I don't know when I'm getting my TC, I'm trying to find a good
price on a TC-E17ED, but having a hard time, I really want to get
the Nikon, but it's hard to justify paying full price, also have to
convence the female in my life that I need it ;) I may get a Tcon,
but IQ is addicting, especially after seeing results like this!
I know, this TC is really expensive, I think it worth trying for a second hand one with cheaper price
Good job! I didn't realize you lived in New Zealand though, neat,
I near it's a beautiful country!
Thanks again.

I can't figure out if you just sold more FZ-50's or TC-E17ED's.
That bird sure has some nice feather texture.

Well, that does it. Now I'm very unhappy that I didn't get the
Nikon TC when they were readily available. Does anyone know where
they can be found and if the current lack of them is just temporary
or has Nikon stopped producing them? Thanks, Bob.
Hi Bob, as far as I know Nikon has stopped its production, but don't take my word for it..... I think there are still few places you can get a new one, but best place would be to keep an eye on ebay.... do a search in this forum too, there have been few threads here in recent past about places where it is still available.

Hi, Thanks a lot... I am sure it was a bit of both...FZ50+17ED combination is great and this TC's combination with FZ5 and FZ30 is equally superb.

No real focusing problems but you can tell in some shots that the camera is "hunting". Check this gallery, the first 5 shots are a high speed burst, 5MP EZ, mode is Program AE, OIS Mode 2, 1 area focus, multiple area metering, no cropping, no PP. The subject is about 100+ yards out from me, probably more. The EZ Mode makes the TC17 even more impressive. Some of my buddies shoot with Digital Rebels using 400mm glass, which is about equal to 640mm. They are pretty excited about their "640mm" until I show them what I've got! LOL

become a birder. Stunning!

Mejnor
Day 1 was several weeks ago, in the meantime it lied idle.... may
be because I am not as keen a birder as many here(John Reed, Trevor
Carpenter, Ken among others)....still, I love bird photography. So,
I took the combo out yesterday morning.
First destination was Thames coast, about 5 minutes drive, to shoot
some Shags
This one kept watching me

This one watching for fish

This one just happy to be in the sun

Hope you liked these.

Hi aftab

You need to post many more bird photos as these are National Geographic quality!!! I've never seen or heard of this bird and these images have perfect exposure, colour and clarity. I don't think they get better than this! Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!

I don't know if you work with CS2, since you're playing with hight contrast colors (black and white), you may retreive more details in the white with the highlight/shadow command in photoshop. Your details in the black are already pretty impressive.

You got some amazing pics there, well done.... FZs with TCs , a great combination and compared to DSLR+long lenses these are so much more convenient to carry around.
