I just finished a family portrait. They wan a combination card. Happy New Year combined with the birth announcement of their new daughter.

They would like dark colors. Reds, Blues, Greens and they mentioned Silver.

Words on card are to be:

Happy New Year
From The Boleys
Curtis,Leslie, Jax,
and
ZoeKate Allyn
December 21, 2006
8lbs. 2 oz.
20 1/4 inches

Here is the photograph the chose.
Thanks for your help.

I know there are many great photoshoppers on this fourm. I'm amazed at what some of you produce.

Everybody did great. I think Roberta is on the same track as I am. I thought of using snow flakes but thought firworks wouls work better.

I will post mine some time today. I have a hundred other things to get done first.

Thanks to everybody for your great ideas.

I really like that, and I appreciate that you went with blue and not green, so it's more of an announcement than a late holiday card.

Excellent work!

I can't tell from the size of your previews how much detail is in your layouts, so it may be there and I can't see it. If not, some things like background texture, dimension, drop shadows, etc. can add interest to this type of project. Here is an actual size crop of mine so show you what I'm talking about:

Very Cool,

I did not texture mine but will go back and do that. I still have it as layers.

Thanks so much.

I killed the fire works one, just didn't look good.

In a home portrait the tight posing to me is not as pleasing. When a family elects to hire you to come to their home rather than coming to your studio, I think they are looking for a more casual portrait. One that shows a little of their home off. If you study some of the greats, such as Charles Lewis, you will see beautuifully composed family portraits with spaces between the people. To me, this gives a great feeling to the portraits. I'm not that good at it due to not enough practice. I'm a full time Manufacturing Engineer running a studio besid my home. Most of my portrait work is in my studio.
