XD-11 or X-570

Can't remember if anyone gave you this link http://www.rokkorfiles.com/XD11.html . There is lots of info out there on this camera. As for finding one in great condition you will either have to keep trolling ebay and other auction site or place WTB (want to buy) adds in forums that allow sales. Popphoto.com, dyxum.com, photo.net, rangefinderforum.com and dslrexchange.com all have classifieds sections for this.

Cameta Camera has some MC/MD lenses, winders, and bodies. It might be worth keeping an eye on during your search.

There are a few XD-11 cameras currentlly on ebay:
Item number: 140070507237
Item number: 120072447617
Item number: 300068158428
Item number: 220069400083 (black body!)

If none of these work out, there will be more next week. Just search on "Minolta XD-11".

There are alot of XD11/7s I've found on ebay. I haven't seen one with the new style lettering. I guess I'll hold out until I have a black one with the new style lettering. Since I have a perfect SRT101 I can hold out until the right one comes along.

It is the best multi-mode electro-mechanical Minolta Film MF camera. It has a "secret" feature such as Programmed Aperture and Shutter Priority modes. It adjusts itself in case your aperture in Aperture priority mode is not enough and in case your shutter speed in Shutter priority mode is not enough. It's a hidden feature.

My Minolta XD-11 is now 20 years with me and I just re-lubricate it every two years. A nice mean machine specially with its winder even though it is just manual focus camera.

A collector's item indeed.

... XD-11 and X700 ( not X570 ), both excellent. The X700 was more "modern", I guess the last non-AF from Minolta? Anyway you can't go wrong with any of them for what you want, I'd get the XD-11 for its amazingly refined mechanical construction!

Always having fun with photography ...

Does it really matter which version? I've found a number of different versions but really, mechanically and internally, aren't they all the same camera? What versions are out there are basically cosmetic changes?

If you really can't tell the difference get the first you can.

The modification where probably also done internally to cut cost on production, but I don't think you should worry with that.

If you need further help, you should join MINMAN at yahoo groups, they are very helpful.

Have fun with manual cameras, IMHO they are a different level of photography.

I'm just mounting my chemical darkroom, after that I hope to use more and more my X-500.

Well ... I found one on ebay. One of the original version models of the XD-11 advertised as 'like new' and in the original box. Pictures of the camera looked very clean. I'll let you know how it looks after I get it.

and this, considering I have an EOS 5D and 3 body....

Agree on SRT 101. Only problems are the focusing screen doesn't pop into focus like newer screens and the mercury battery is unavailable now. Picked mine up in Pago Pago in 1969 (?). Loaned to to my brother when I went autofocu due to aging eyesight in 1990. The cloth shutter tore while he was using it so I picked up a replacement at a yard sale for $15. Can't focus it in dim light but love it for outdoor stuff. What battery do you use to replace the now unavailable mercury cell?

Just picked up a 500mm Mirror lens on closeout at Wolfs (their brand), cheap, for my KM 5Dand they mistakenly sold me the old Minolta T Mount. I think I'll keep it and try some B&W bird shots with the old SRT 101.

DL..

When I had my SRT101 CLA'd by Terry's Camera in Fountain Valley, CA., ( a little Japanese guy who used to work for Minolta Japan) I had the system converted over to the new alkaloid 1.5V battery. He installed a Varta V 625 U battery readily available on ebay and found on google.

I also believe the original mercury batteries are still available although you have to get them in Europe. Before I had the camera converted that's where I was buying them.

If your are doing this for nostalgic reasons, why not go all the way? I like going out with my SRT-101 and some of the rangefinders of that vintage. I generally rely on an external meter or my best guess, since mercury batteries are no longer available.

If I had to choose between the XD-11 and the X-570, I'd say the X-570. The XD-11 was my favourite in the late 70's, but it was eclipsed by the X series. Minolta made the X-700 well into the 90's. I think I would try to get one of those, something that is possibly only 10 or 15 years old.
