Family Portrait. C&C welcomed

Ron, I did a CMYK tweak to color since there was a tad too much yellow and blue (green cast on the boy's face). I also did a little work to bring out the detail with some contrast and high pass sharpening. I think you're stuck with a reddish faced dad to keep everyone else in balance. It does look natural - some guys are fairly red. Really tough combination of skin tones.

This is much better. Between two forums I have enough data to spend days reworking the PS.... or.... I coud reshoot the family with fresh batteries. Tough one. I really blew it with the composition. Even if they like it I will always feel weid about giving them something less than it should be.

Thanks for working on this,

Ron

Thanks for the tips. I really miss the hands. You were right - it looks like I was trying to conceal them. I'm throwing away all my books! Just kidding...

I wish I could have went back and reshot. I figured that the black coats had something to do with it but was wondering if it could have been the setting as well. It was a very gloomy day. As you can you see in picture a lot of sky was behind them . Even though it was cloudy could that have done it as well. Not sure where I should have metered? The sky? Their face?

I have had so many ideas regarding color correction that all I see is RED.
It's cool... this is learning.

I want to thank each of you for indulging me and offering your best. Yes, it's no secret that I have some color perception issues (male hadicap!) but I have to learn to resolve problems when they arise not matter what, including my personal challenges.

That being said how far off is this:

And my all means let me know what you think of the crop and composition.

Thanks folks!

Looks a tad to cool. Do you have a whit balance card such as the whibal? Thats what I use, and then I tweak the color balance one way or the the other as I see fit, but not by much.

Ron,

You may want to consider looking into a program called iCorrect Professional by Pictographics. This is a one-click program to make skin color correct.

I use this program to check myself as I have somewhat the same problem you do in seeing the correct color. I don't always use the image after it is being converted in this program, but it does allow me to see a before and after version.

Quite often I will find what I thought looked good looks much better by using this program, and sometimes I decide not to use the image because I want a little different look.
