The comet was an amazing sight last night. Dominating the night sky after sunset with a huge tail.
This shot with the 70-300 IS at 70mm to get it all in.
20 second exposure at f8 , ISO 1600

Hope to get more tonight.

Wow that's so awesome! I wish I could see it, but I live in NYC
and if it's not blocked by a building it's obscured by all the
lighting. I'm glad other people are getting good shots of it,
they're fun to look at.

Thanks Angela,

I was thinking 300mm would be too short, but given the huge size of it I wished I had my 50 / 1.8 with me. I will try that in the next few days clear skies permitting!

Nice shot Max. This comet is putting on a once in a life-time display now.

Here are some of mine from last night on a tripod battling gusty wind...

(using a 400D and a lot of inexperience)

17sec., F5.6, ISO 100, 28-90mmf4-5.6@ 90mmm

32sec., F5.0, ISO 400, using the 18-55mm Kit lens

Same as above, just using DPP to try and bring out more of the streamers in the tail:

C&C welcome

Andrew

Great shots Andrew,

Just got back with mine from tonight. Found the 50mm still too long.

Here is one from tonight. 30 seconds f2.5 100 ISO using the 50mm 1.8

Max ...

Nice one Max - didn't make it out tonight - still recovering from a very late night observing down at Casino and subsequent drive back to Brisbane on very little sleep.

Looking at your shot tonight I wonder if It would be possible to try and take a pic of the comet over very still water - would reflect? I would think that it is bright enough.

Hi Andrew,

funny you should say that as I did take a couple with still water reflection in the lake here. My 50mm lens wasn't wide enough so I"ll try again tonight.

Here is the attempt I made Sunday night.
